Lewis over hand right connecting easily toa 185 pounder who was dropped by guys around 200 pounds? This fight doesn't get past round 2..lennox by fast k.o!How Marciano goes about fighting a guy with 83 inch reach would be fun in itself.
Funny how a mismatch like this managed to last the duration of an 18 page thread, while a far more practical thread featuring Mayweather vs Armstrong only got 7 replies and is now on page two of the forum.
Marciano / Taller than Tua - Fit as a fiddle, all muscle and sinew. Not a touch of flab. Tua - Shorter than Marciano, One punch fighter, fat, rolls of flab. But , He can compete with Lewis, because... um... well just because. .....Marciano, no chance. :yep
Thank god marcianos best opponents look so skilled on film. Otherwise he would never hear the end of it from the critics
Marciano was also a one punch fighter, never a combo puncher,he beat his opponents by planting setting then throwing a single punch..tua had speed and one of the shortest left hooks in history,Marciano never had his heavy hands just watch both k.o highlites and see who was more effective.Marciano also had the shortest reach as a HW ever so not sure where length comes into play.Fat at 240 doesn't win or lose fights, boxing is not a body building contest, the Marciano was in shape obviously but was only 185,he would get swatted like a fly against Lewis.
You should watch some Marciano fights. He was anything but a "one punch fighter". Marciano had he came in 30 lbs heavier would have still had a better chance than Tua against Lewis. I don't favor Marcaino is this fight, but to say he could not compete, when a non champ, fat, one punch fighter like Tua can, is not logical.
Don't get me wrong, Lewis should be favored because he has all the advantages here but consider this..Old Joe Louis was no longer a great fighter when he fought Marciano but by then wasn't Joe as capable as say a Ray Mercer? Was Marciano ever less capable than Ray Mercer?
That's a good point. You know, I was watching some Marciano last night. Marciano vs Ezzard, to be precise. I pretty much randomly clicked on the fight and watched. At first the impression one gets is the one his detractors harp on. Yes, he's awkward, comes in with a low stance and difficult to hit. But he also looks clumsy, his handspeed is really nothing to write home about and his method of punching is anything but RJJ. Sets himself up, flings a punch with all his power, barges into the opponent, flings a few more, sometimes getting himself badly off balance. Then its rinse and repeat. Yes, the punches are pretty darn hard, and yes, he was throwing a bucketload of them, but technically, imho, he was lacking compared to other ATG's. Then the fight was over. WTF? I checked the round. I'd been watching without sound, and hadn't realised at first that this was round 15. Marciano was a machine. There's no other way to put it. He was throwing more hard punches in round 15 than most other heavyweights throw in round 1. I think people forget just how great his determination and stamina was. Frankly I reckon Rocky could have the beating of Lewis, who on paper at least, cleans house. Watch Lewis vs Billups, and how Lewis has a tough nights work. Now slot in Marciano instead, and tell me that Marciano couldn't have won that night. My 2c
Exactly, I remember how bad Lewis was in that fight with Billups, but people will try to say Billups was bigger and stronger.... To me it's not a case of picking Rocky in this matchup. It's a case of being careful not to entirely rule him out. A fighter not just throwing but landing so many bombs who takes a good shot must never be so easily dismissed against anyone.
