Dunphy and Al Bernstein are probably my two favourites and interestingly enough both preferred working solo. Dunphy of course was also a radio commentator, making him doubly versatile. Dunphy is also Bernstein's personal favourite so all in all I'd say I'm in good company. Gil Clancy is my favourite ****yst and he and Tim Ryan made a very effective team. I really miss that duo. I thought that Manny Steward was a good ****yst but he was too bland for my taste. People hate on Cosell but personally I enjoyed his commentary.
I agree with most of fist of Fury's post 100 percent. Although I did like Steward. He was insightful rather than bland to me and I didn't quite care for Cosell to much agenda driven stuff.
To get the emotions stirring it has to be Bob Sheridan for me, definitely makes a fight that more dramatic.
Harry Carpenter was the master for me, understated, calm and not terrified to keep quiet like a lot of guys are today. Even the one moment he lost his poise was wonderful. ''Get in there Frank!''
Trouble with Harry was he often misread fights, "Ali can hardly hold his hands up, he's so tired,Oh my word he's knocked Foreman out!"
