Many of you know much about these two legends. Both happened to fight ~ 165. But seem aboiut as different as can be. A trap setting boxer/slugger with a devastating punch... And a hyper-kinetic warming whitlwind, mucho speed, not great power. 15 rounds, how does it play out?
Common wisdom tells you either Greb by decision or Fitzsimmons via abrupt KO. The crux is Bob could switch from a counter-puncher to something of an attacker. Which would be the best policy? Which would play more into the Windmill's hands? Bob could take him out in fifteen rounds because, for his poundage, he hit like no one else and set up his bombs meticulously. He could ship damage and drop rounds while sussing you. Greb would have to be as quick and unpredictable as ever. You wouldn't be able to look away.
You just can't attack Fitz without having some power often. But thatÂ’s how Greb wanted to fight. Greb was a swarming attacker, death by 1,000 paper cuts type of fighter. Sooner or later, Fitz would land, and that would be it. If it was a short fight ( 4 to 6 rounds ), A Greb UD has a good chance, but not 12 rounds and beyond.
Edgren who saw them both...thought Fitz would smoke him...He thought Fitz would smoke any middleweight.
Thanks for the answers guys. But Fitz & Greb were a little more than middleweights. I suppose you meant that Fitz would smoke anyone up to what is now Supermiddleweight. A good question would also be is how many of the best LHWs would Fitz NOT beat.
Edgren was 17 when Fitz beat Nonpareil for the middleweight crown, and 23 when he dethroned Corbett. He was 50 years old when Greb became middleweight champion! Isn't it a no-brainer, that he would pick Fitz? Just another case of who you saw first.
