True, but that's only until the dust settles and we find out who the worthy ppv stars are after winning a few dangerous fights and becomes a brand. There will be losers and repeat losers whose stock will take hits accordingly, much of this will play itself out.
I think the model will change. That and "cord cutting" is a real thing that gains steam every year. Since PBC has killed even receiving token monetization from networks for cards the premiums do not carry, expect some outfits to look towards the internet for exposure in the near future. Once that becomes more of a "thing" and the infrastructure and awareness is there, and if viewership follows then the logical progression is to expand monetization. First through sponsorship and ads, then if my crystal ball is accurate towards paid content. TV in general is moving in this direction, and once promoters get a handle on monetization and production of their own shows I think its a natural fit for boxing - at least from the business angle. 5 years from now I think we will be watching most cards on a streaming device, with prices ranging from free (ad/sponsored) to GGG-DL level fights at $50, and everything in-between. There are already plenty of very successful niche steaming markets /services with hundreds of thousands of subscribers (not counting the big boys like Netflix/Amazon) - just boxing is always behind the curve and due to fragmented nature of the sport , a generalized "subscription" service is likely not workable. I think bouts will continue to be monetized on a promotion by promotion basis (this wont ever change), so each promoter of record will handle streaming distribution and monetization on a fight by fight basis. So we will get more solid mid-level cards vs contenders that HBO isn't interested in or cant schedule, but we will probably end up paying something as well. Once this is an accepted and usual model, promoters will likely lose interest in divvying out 50% to cable companies- and even HBO and SHO will be completely detethered by then. (they have both been moving away from regular cable, slowly but surely already)
It depends on what you get ! Golovkin is a big favorite over Lemieux. But it is an exiting fight. If Luis Ortiz fight Berbane Stiverne that would be a more exiting fight I dont like fight with a big favorite vs an underdog like Floyd vs Berto.
They might as well of put Golovkin's fight with Curtis Stevens on PPV. This is laughable. This is the same short armed Lemeux who was smacked around by Marco Antonio Rubio, and also Alcine. Lemeux beat N'Jkam. So what. N'Jkam isn't really good. This middleweight division down right blows. Neither Lemeux or N'Jkam would be one of the 10 best middleweights during the 90s.
Lemieux would destroy Rubio in a rematch and Ndam has proved to be a tough cookie for any top 160 including Quillin. These are the division's 2 top punchers, Canelo, Cotto, or Quillin were never too eager to face these 2. The undercard is stacked, Viloria a dangerous veteran you can never count out and Ortiz-Stiverne might be just as explosive as GGG-Lemieux. Hell yea it's ppv worthy compared to that trash of a fight Mayweather is trying to sell.
That is a huge assumption. He was supposed to destroy him the first time, instead of making him look like a legit contender. The division just plain sucks. N'Jkam, being tough doesn't equate to being good. His defense sucks. I don't mind the other match ups, there is some intrigue there, although I fully expect Chocolito to destroy Viloria. It's a decent card, just shouldn't be PPV.
Lemieux is a front running, belligerent midget who falls apart when he gets hit back. He did not lose to Rubio because he ran out of gas. Lemieux flew off his stool to start the 6th but started getting timed by Rubio. He was hurt by the end of the round and finished in the 7th despite Rubio not even pressing the action. N'Dam was even bothering him late in their fight after being dominated early. In fact: If that was a 15 round fight it would not suprise me if N'Dam would have also stopped Lemieux. The belligerent midget is going to fall apart early against GGG because he can only fight one way and that way is gping to get him hurt against someone like GGG.
I'll have to rewatch the 6th to see if this is what went down, don't let CST see this post because he'll get mad from any criticism towards lemieux . Keep building that v cash :good.
I never noticed CST being that big on Lemieux. I knew he was a supporter but to what extent I was uncertain. CST was/is a big Froch supporter and I went after him hard for stringing GGG along. We are friendly so I doubt he will care to much when I start calling Lemieux a belligerent midget with regularity.
How dare you, you *******:yep I love Lemieux I'm a pretty big fan, but he'll more than likely be KO'd in 6. And no I don't care if you call him a belligerent midget.
it's the assessment of the rubio fight that would get you upset, not because you called him a belligerent midget, I'm 100% sure you disagree with him.
