If Mike Tyson was around today, would he be a bigger star than Floyd?

It was a combination of things that ruined him, but the things I spoke of were the reason he lost to Douglas. Losing his aura of invincibility speeded up his decline though. You can see Mike is not right from the first bell, intimidation has nothing to do with it. He was the real deal, lots of guys weren't intimidated by him and he just blew them away.

One or two of them might be like Tucker and Smith, both who Mike struggled with. I would not fancy Bruno against a guy like Teper today, who is #9 on boxrec. Berbick, inferior to Jennings in my view.

He had his moments but the momentum was lost in 1990, you see in the fights with Ruddock before jail he'd lost the fear factor. Ruddock was a B class guy who threw big power shots, had no jab and had a bad chin, still went 19 rounds.

I always thought Tyson was overrated but people are getting carried away. He'd loose to prime Lennox and Vitali be 50\50 vs Wlad and that's all. Prime Tyson would easily beat any other contender from the last two decades.

    Come on.
Berbick wouldnt be a top 10, no fukking chance.
Wlad would bounce him outta the ring.
Spinks would have Kovalev and Stevenson problems, and wouldnt even consider fighting N of 175.
Holmes would win some and lose some but the version Tyson fought would be less than 50/50 vs Potvetkin or Pulev, and probably the Fury's.
Bruno......he would be the X factor here. He would match up very well against anyone in the top 10, and would probably destroy guys like Wilder, Fury, and Potvetkin. I think he'd probably even beat this version of Wlad.
Tyson himself......yeah....he'd have a very good shot of beating this Wlad.
But Floyd himself if exiting the sport, and 20 y/o Tyson would be just entering the top 10 about now, while Wlad is also on the way out.
Vitali's gone while Tyson is making his debut.

3-4 years ago, there was also David Haye, and it would be a lot tougher for Tyson to ravage his way to a title these days.

Guys like Zouski aint gonna get ya there. :patsch

And even if he took the Wilder route, beating the Zouskis(Gaverns/Firthas) to the title, he'd still have that looming fight with Vitali and prime Wladimir.

No way DK steers him that direction.

Floyd and Pac would still be the p4p kings regardless of how many Gaverns and Firthas Mike beat.
He'd have to beat Klitschkos, which no one has been able to do repeatedly over 17 yrs. :-(

I could have picked almost any of these Tyson bashing quotes, they're all much of a muchness.

The point about Tyson appearing in his own computer games is poignant. He totally transcended the sport as have a few others: Tiger Woods, Tony Hawk, Michael Jordan etc etc.

He was a physical phenomenon no doubt and fighting at HW meant he was the baddest man on the planet. People recognised this and loved it.
Floyd is a marvel for a hardcore fan but doesn't have the physical presence or cache of a prime Tyson and as such will never transcend the sport.

What career wins do you base that claim on?

Rubbish. People thought Holyfield was actually going to die against Tyson.

Even Lewis and Steward were very wary of the worst ever version of Tyson in 2003.

Spinks wouldn't be a HW today. He'd never get past any current contenders. Povetkin, Fury, Wilder would WRECK his glass chin.

Berbick woulnd't even get a title shot, maybe if he was cherry picked by Wilder's handlers.

Holmes was 38 when Tyson fought him and Mike STRUGGLED with him until he landed his KO combo. The version of Holmes that Mike faced would NOT be considered "one of the best HWs today". You're deluding yourself. That was an old, fat, sluggish and washed up version of Holmes.

Bruno has a career of cherry-picked low risk opponents. Every time he stepped up he got beat. If he won a belt today he'd lose it quickly. Bruno has no chance against modern day SHWs. A wide-open defense and chinny.

So yea there's your hit list of Tyson's big wins. They'd all be nobodys today and so would Mike. Tyson could easily cook down to LHW and become a star there. But not in the 2010s HW division. Way too small.

You could say that about anyone though, Ali's so called big wins would all be easy pickings for Wladimir Klitschko. It's all relative as boxing evolves.

Spinks was better than Chris Byrd . Prime Byrd was a non factor in the pre Klitschko era.

When he was shot to bits in the mid 00's he was ranked as the #1 contender and Wlad beat him to become champ.

If Mike 'struggled' with Holmes , then Wlad had a greater struggle with the shell of a non punching , blown up light heavy who should have been coming off 4 losses.

Try and be creative in your trolling. Its boring and humourless
