If Mike Tyson was around today, would he be a bigger star than Floyd?

Holmes also went on to beat the unbeaten Ray Mercer and a string of other good wins after Tyson demolished him, so just lazily writing him off as fat, old and past it doesn't really work.

88 Holmes would beat nearly all of the top tenners of the Klitschko era.

The top 10 has been made up of weak bodies such as

    Arreola
    Adamek
    Solis
    Toney
    Maskaev
    Peter
    Byrd
    Glascov

The list goes on an on

Mercer and MaCall were better than anyody there.

Holmes 4 years after Tyson schooled Mercer and nearly beat MaCall at 44 years of age. Right after MaCall knocked out Lewis. Holmes skills were on a different level and would show

Since when is McCall a great hw? He held one belt for 5 minutes and never got another shot, his legendary chin based on journeyman fights. Most of your carefully picked guys would wreck 80's bums and give Mike much sterner tests than most of what he fed on pre Trevor Berbick.

He literally came to obliterate whoever was infront of him, Mayweather is PPV because of his antics not because of what he does between the ropes, maybe Pretty Boy would have held a spot for fans to deem him entertaining enough to slot in somewhere... look how successful Golovkin is going to be, this HW era is a joke so he'd be consistently knocking guys out.

McCall spark'd unbeaten Maskaev in the first round.

In Wlads era , Maskaev was the WBC Champ at 37 years of age:rofl

Why don't you name me these guys who would give Tyson a stern test??. Make me laugh.

You base McCall was a great hw on Maskaev? I wouldn't rate Maskaev anywhere near an 00's top ten. He was starched by Peter who was starched by Vitali, end of career. All the guy's in your list except Maskaev would give pre Berbick Tyson a decent test. If guy's like Tillis and Green could push him wtf is Sam Peter 2005 or Byrd 2004 going to do? But we're supposed to talking today's scene.

    Top 10 2015:

    Wlad (champ)
    Povetkin
    Fury
    Kubrat Pulev
    Wilder
    Glazkov
    Tony Thompson
    Tony Tarver
    Teper
    Jennings

    Top 10 1986 (ring)

    Mike Tyson (champ)
    James (Bonecrusher) Smith
    Pinklon Thomas
    Tim Witherspoon
    Tony Tubbs
    Trevor Berbick
    James (Buster) Douglas
    Tony Tucker
    Frank Bruno
    Tyrell Biggs

I think Wlad Tyson would be a 50-50, maybe. Wlad is a 39 year old, although an exceptional one. The rest I'd go mostly with 2015. Pov would KO Smith no problem. Fury would do Thomas easy. Pulev vs Witherspoon, I'm going Pulev. Tubbs might KO Wilder, a 50-50. Berbick might edge Glazkov UD, might not. Feather duster throwing Douglas is getting beat by Tony Thompson by UD or stoppage. Tucker vs Tarver would be 50-50. And as I said I'd take Teper to shatter Bruno's chin and Biggs is a joke, KO2 Jennings. So there is your 80's scene, would be doing well to lose 7-3 here.

When did I ever say MaCall was a great fighter? He was good. He'd be even better if he was around today.

You just proved how bad the era was since Maskaev was a top contender and WBC Champion. How the hell can he be nowhere near the top 10 when he held the belt:huh. That says everything about how weak the scene was/is

So now we're only talking about pre Berbick Tyson? Because just general 80's Tyson was too good you had to select the early two year as a pro version?

Tillis , Green and the majority of 80' heavies could move and jab.

Peter would get blasted out in one round and Ibeauchi proved how easily Mike would have handled Byrd.

Povetkin couldn't KO Chambers, Chagev or Cruiser Marco Huck but he does what Tyson could not and easily knocks out Smith? What sort of sauce are you on?

    Maybe.

Pulev never beat a top 10 ranked opponent in his life. He isn't beating any Witherspoon. Spoon had a far greater skill set than Pulev.
That is clear to anybody who watched him box.

    Feather duster?

Buster was a savage puncher. His jab alone was harder than any punch thrown by Thompson. An on form Douglas would blow Wlads era away - including Wlad.

So you'd take a 15 fight nothing man to beat a former WBC champion?

Then you must also believe he'd beat Joshua yeah?:nut

Nobody around today has the speed and complete skill set as a guy like Jesse Ferguson.

16 fight Ferguson would embarrass most of the guys ranked in the top 10.

This era has been so terrible it opened the doors for lower weight guys to move up and find the success they wouldn't get in their own divisions.

In Pulev vs Terrible Tim I gotta go with Witherspoon by brutal right hand sky hook KO. Pulev may well do good work in there, but that one weapon neutralizes everything IMHO

Dino, have you watched Pov's last three fights? I don't care what Pov did in 2010, this is 2015 vs 1986. His last three ko's are better than any version of Smith could manage. Douglas was a savage puncher? He had good hands agreed, fast, but they were not heavy, so never a savage puncher. Spoon might be a bit slicker than Kubrat but the Bulgarian is tougher and harder hitting. Teper 2015 would wreck Bruno 1986 absolutely, Bruno was not wbc champion until 1995 and one of the worst ever, alongside Maskaev, but at least Maskaev knocked out Rahman to win it and didn't rely on home town judges like Bruno. Anyway I've still got 2015 beating 1986 by 7 bouts to 3, possibly a couple of split decisions in there.

Not getting into this other than to ask WTF is Tarver doing in that list ?

    He's not even a top twenty !

And if that wasn't enough, you have him a 50-50 with Tucker ?

Get the F outta here !!!!

Also, as a Wlad fan, I see prime Tyson as all wrong for the big lad.

60 - 40 or better in favour of Mike.
