This is it. People get ATG & HOF twisted so badly. Beating an ATG at their optimal weight in their prime, to me, is beating someone like Marvin Hagler - at MW - in the early 80's. Beating a HOF'er is like beating Carl Froch - as Kessler did - a few years ago. See the difference?
Boxing is prize fighting.SRR is undisputed GOAT for me,and even he fought for $$ mainly.the purses were only way smaller.i bet most ATG's from past would have followed the path of Floyd,Pacquaio(yes,or what you Call zombie Margarito,Rios,Algieri etc) and now Canelo,Cotto and many more will come. If the purses would be so big as now.they simply had to fight so often,and nowadays you fight1-3times a year.and losing affects your purses. Boxing is now different ballgame.. Just accept and move on.only way to correct this is to make boxing sometype of league.where you have to fight 5-10 Times a year.against the best(not every fight) then we would see some new SRR possibbly or Armstrong,Langford,Pep etc... Now the world runs around $ .you can see it other sports too.example like Bryant max contract.take the minimum,and try to win(as he claims he want 6th ring)with the max contract and in Lakers it's impossible.so Kobe and many more others care $ than having best legacy possible.
