    Same name, Different Game...!!!

What is in a name...??? Why are some John Does aliases, and some are missing persons...???
But what about the boxers that share their namesakes...???

Guys that are excluded are the obvious ones: Muhammad Ali, Rocky Balboa, Joe Walcott, etc.

Lets look deeper into some combatants that share their names with others in their profession.
Tomasz Adamek is a retired former Light Heavyweight, Cruiserweight and albeit minor title heavyweight champion. Adamek's resume reads of a who's who in boxing during the late 1990's to late 2010's, guys like Chad Dawson, O'Neill Bell, Steve Cunningham, Andrew Golota, Chris Arreola, Michael Grant and Vitali Klitschko.

But what about the other Adamek...???

Tomas Adamek is a Polish lightheavyweight journeyman type fighter, best known for his two losses to Nadjib Mohammedi and Pawel Glazewki. Sticking to the theme of the thread, Adamek does hold a win over another (in)famous namesake: Laszlo Papp.

Laszlo Papp is a retired undefeated Hungarian middleweight. Papp is famously know as the first and only boxer to ever win 3 Olympic Gold Medals (1948, 1952, 1956). Shortly after his amateur days were over, Papp reigned in the middleweight division for only 7 years, before his government revoked his travel permit, halting a major payday against Middleweight Champion Joey Giardello.

Laszlo Papp, light heavyweight the one that fought the "other" Adamek, is also from Hungary. Unfortunately his skills were not up to that of his namesake. Papp retired from boxing after a four year- 11 fight career that saw his only knockout loss coming from Adamek.

Carlos Molina is a super lightweight hailing from Los Angeles, California. Molina, like his brothers Oscar and Javier display their skills in the boxing ring. Molina has suffered 2 defeats in his 8 year career, a RTD loss to Amir Khan, and a decision loss to Adrien Broner.

Carlos Molina is a super welterweight hailing from Mexico is a typical journeyman. His record may not be that flashy, but it consists of some pretty good foes: K9 Bundrage, Kirkland, Alvarado, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Danny Perez, Kermit Cintron.

Darnell "Ding-A-Ling" Wilson is the opposite of what people think of when they think journeyman or record padders. Ding, comes to win, and he has upset a few fighters along his way: Juan Carlos Gomez, David Rodriguez, Emmanuel Nwodo, Daniel Judah.

Darnell Wilson was a highly accomplished amateur, winning the National Golden Gloves Light Middlewight Champion in 1993, the United States Amateur Light Middleweight Champion from 1997 to 1999. He served as an alternate on the 1996 US Olympic Boxing team in Atlanta, GA. Wilson holds amateur wins over Anthony Hanshaw, Jermain Taylor, and a loss to Kelly Pavlik. In the pro ranks, Wilson had a brief 10 year, 13 fight career with a win over Reggie Strickland and his solo loss to Chad Dawson.

Jose Carlos Ramirez is an undefeated, up-and-coming super lightweight. Though he has only been a pro for 3 years, his record is comprised of many no namers, but his amateur pedigree is very good. US Junior Championships Gold Medalist at 57kg in 2009, in 2010 and 2011 he also won gold this time at 60 kg. A gold medal in Mobile, Alabama at the Olympics Trial at 60kg, and in 2012 Ramirez captured another Gold at the US Championships at 60kg. At the 2011 World Championships Ramirez suffered a defeat to Vasyl Lomachenko.

Jose Ramirez is a 9 year pro that started his career similar to the aforementioned Jose Carlos Ramirez. Both were 15-0. But the last 11 fights for this Ramirez haven't faired too well; he is 5-6 with 3 losses coming via knockouts.

    The Harry Arroyo Syndrome:

Charlie Brown "Choo Choo" was the former IBF World Lightweight Champion. In his first defense he lost the belt via a 14th round tko to Harry Arroyo.

In Arroyo's first defense nine months after winning the belt he faced:

Charlie Brown "White Lightning" was undefeated lightweight prospect when he fought for the IBF Lightweight Championship. His fate came 6 rounds earlier than his namesake's, this Charlie Brown lost to Arroyo by 8th round TKO.

I thought of them, but the Corey vs Corrie spelling....then you would have people complaining over other things like Smith, Smythe, Smyth, etc.

What about Ray Robinson and "the new" Ray Robinson.
James Toney had a journeyman namesake in the Cruiserweight division, and the was this guy a couple of years back that had padded his record with all kinds of big names (some with small spelling differences) who were all just low class journeymen.

I tried to stay away from the Ray Robinson--New Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali types of names.

Also guys like Andre Ward who is 0-0-1 as a Heavyweight really didn't receive enough merit for me to list.

I will research James Toney's namesake...!!!

Danny "Popeye" Garcia was the quintessential trialhorse. Garcia took on all fighters, usually on short notice and gave a good account of himself. There were a couple questionable losses on Popeye's ledger, but as the journeyman status goes, a win is a loss, especially when its to a better known foe. During a 14 month span, Garcia was the opponent for Toney, Ouellet, Jones Jr and John David Jackson (combined 102-0-2). Garcia had also found himself standing opposite of guys like Pyatt, Otis Grant, Diaz.

On the opposite side of the boxing continuum is the other Danny "Swift" Garcia. Swift, a former super lightweight, now campaigning as a welterweight has actually be given a gift [majority] decision against Herrera, a fight in which many thought Herrera won easily. The unbeaten WBA & WBC Superlightweight champion has been in the ring with the likes of Judah, Matthysse, Amir Khan, Morales, etc.

There's a fairly talented Belarussian fighter named Sergei Kuzmin who fights for WSB, and he's a pretty good looking slim guy, unlike the obese balding fat Blob Heavyweight Sergey Kuzmin.
