Marvis Frazier had footwork and was bigger than Louis and stood directly in front of Tyson ..Louis would be one of the smallest guys he ever fought. If you think Louis ever beat a Bone crusher smith like big guy have at it, I have no doubt Smith beats the Baers or the Carneras of his era,and marvis defeated Smith,Marvis also is credited by his own father of having much better mobility than joe had.The hands down style of the Louis era simply goes south fast and I mean fast, cant see anyone dropping their lead left lasting the first onslaught here, and that includes Louis.

You need to take your beer goggles off,no one who actually saw those fights would agree there. On that night many say he would have even beat holyfield and ali,i agree. And that's Tyson at his worst, you convienently ignore Louis losing to out of prime 190 pounders?

    No bicycle necessary :

Do you see Douglas running or dancing ? He's just boxing. He steps back when Tyson rushes, but barely has to go anywhere. Often he's forced to come forward. Usually he's just standing, boxing, unleashing heavy blows.

He boxed well. In fact, if he had "got on his bicycle" he probably would play into Tyson hands.

I will always rate Joe Louis significantly higher than Mike Tyson due to his superior ring achievements in his own era. But stylistically and head to head I've always felt this to be a bad match up for Joe. Tyson possessed the sort of attributes that capitalized on Louis's weaknesses and while Joe was very tough he did prove vulnerable at times. Schmeling, Buddy Baer, Braddock, Walcott and Galento all had Louis down early in their fights with him, and none of those guys were as deadly in the early rounds as Mike Tyson who did his best work there. Joe also seemed to have a soft spot for the left hook and mike threw one of the best. If Louis could weather the storm early and get Mike into the mid to later rounds where he could start taking him apart with his combinations then he might pull it off. But if he gets in too much trouble early he might get knocked out.

I don't think for 1 minute that great corner of Loius would have any problems finding faults with that D'Amato style. And having their guy ready and being an opportunist when an opening presented itself.

He doesn't go anywhere midway thru but he is 6'4 and 83 inch reach..Louis would not have that, and again you seem to think this Tyson shows up when on the contrary Louis has many fights that show how bad of a match up this is for him any real boxing fan who studies them would see this.theres plenty of guys who would beat Louis and there not even on Tysons level..douglas himself would cause him head aches just watch what little conn does to him.Conn was 6'0 170 pounds from a former 140 pound weight..Douglas is 6'4 230 pounds of muscle....

Of course it is a valid point that Douglas had a long reach.
But still, Louis has a longer reach than Tyson. Also, Louis was deadly on the inside.
But I guess it's not worth arguing with someone who thinks Louis would do only as well as Marvis Frazier. :good

Both of these fighters are overated.

Louis has a style disadvantage in this fight, IF Joe can survive the first 4 rounds against mike, he would have chance.

Joe would do better a second time around, but I would still favor Iron Mike.

Holyfield backed Tyson up with combinations and getting off first, he didn't need a massive height and reach advantage.

Tyson fought taller guys better reach has nothing to do with it in Louis case as he wasn't a big HW like Douglas.Louis would get crushed on the inside.Marvis Frazier would be one of Louis's best opponents he ever fought.Ots obvious Tyson and Louis are on different skill sets,it wouldn't even go 2 rounds with those 5 ounce gloves on,tyson would crush him.

Holyfield is three times stronger than Louis when he fought Tyson he backed him up with clinching and having lateral movement with on the fly counter puncher, louis didn't have these qualities.Holyfield was actually bigger than Tyson when they fought, little 190/200 pound Louis would get the living daylights beat out of him if he tried out muscling Tyson.
