I'm sure Duran turned pro as a Bantam.

No, not easy at all. HUGE difference between not being fired up and not being in shape. Not being fired up is a mental/psychological issue that you can't blame on the physical effects of drinking and eating months prior. I'm willing to bet that there were many fights where he wasn't "fired up" and far fewer where he was actually out of shape. Some fanboys seem to think that any time we see Duran look less than superhuman, we can just assume that he wasn't in shape.

Isn't that the dream you usually have about Duran?

But whatever floats your boat. That's what I get for wasting words with inarticulate idiots.

They are definitely connected. If you know you're not in shape for a fight, it's pretty hard to bring your best mental attitude to the table especially if you're lacking the physical tools to do so. (ie stamina), and therefore is can easily be both.

Might want to take a psychology course or two sometime in your life.

That said, I don't think anyone needs to apologize for Duran's shortcomings, he had a brilliant career and is universally recognised as a top 10 ATG.

I can pretty much guarantee you that if Duran rather than Mayweather had showed up in Pac's last fight, it wouldn't have been such a miserable and boring affair. That version of Pac wouldn't have seen the later rounds of the fight and might not have seen the mid rounds.

Of course they're connected, but they're not inseparable. BTW, you seem like you know a lot about him and his training ups and downs during his welter/junior-middle days. Other than the various after-the-fact-rationalizations to the media that we've all heard, where did you find all this information?

I assume you're referring to the version of Duran who only showed up relatively few times above 135? You're probably right. That (rare at 147+ Duran) was an aggressive, exciting fighter. Way more likely than Mayweather to end a fight early (obviously). But you seem like a very sensible guy so I know that you already get why that's irrelevant.

Hands of Stone: The Life and Legend of Roberto Duran by Christian Giudice

This is very good book, and it covers him well, warts and all.

Duran was done above welter, he was 5'6 with short arms. I think from 135-140 he beats Mayweather. Leonard and Hearns beat him at any weight. He does beat Benitez though, but its close.

I like Floyd, but people go on and on about 48-0. After his first 87 fights, JC Chaves was EIGHTY-SEVEN AND OH.

Sugar Ray Robinson was 129-1-2 on his 30th birthday. There is no contest.

    Agreed.

THE POINT OF THESE MYTHICAL MATCHUPS IS TO FIND OUT WHO TRULY WOULD THE BETTER FIGHTER.

So you take both fighters when they were at their best and in shape. For you trolls here, it is pretty much irrelevant whether Floyd would have beaten an out of shape or an unmotivated Duran.

You gotta also take into account that Floyd is a small welterweight, with no power.

Duran faced considerable disadvantages in size against Leonard, Hearns and Hagler who all could punch.

Duran apologist are some of the worst fans in boxing. You can't have it both ways and expect to have credibility. Duran was in shape for the first SRL fight but people can't say SRL fought the wrong fight. For the second fight Duran didn't train is the excuse and SRL fought his fight that time. That's the type of stuff I'm talking about right there.

Castillo beat floyd the first time and gave him all the trouble in the world the 2nd time. So you think Castillo is better than TOP 10 ATG Duran ? :rofl
