I though Pacquaio was great for boxing and was impressed how much the American market adopted a non native fighter. I just always found him creepy looking.

Hamed beat fighters who held the 4 major titles at 126, with one of them being stripped right before facing Hamed. Tom Johnson had made 12 title defenses and was the top FW in the world when Hamed beat him. Hamed's opposition wasn't great, but it was decent and far better than GGG's.

Their styles are obviously different, as GGG is more methodical and technical. Hamed had such a weird style. They both had defensive flaws. Some people have tried to make Hamed out to be some really good defensive fighter before he got lazy in training but he showed his deficiencies when he was supposed to be in his peak. Manuel Medina was hitting him with all kinds of shots.

Hamed would have always lost to the elites in Barrera, Marquez, and Morales IMO, with him having the best chance against Morales. No shame in not being on their level. Hamed was still a very good fighter with a respectable resume and GGG has a ways to go before matching his accomplishments, and he's not exactly young either.

    Not even close.

They both have freakish power (Hamed is way quicker though) but GGG is a much better technician than Hamed. You could take away GGG power and he'd still be a good fighter. You take that away from Hamed and I don't think he would have even won a world title IMO.

    Don't really get the comparison.

Hamed may have failed when he faced his first truly elite fighter in Barerra but he dominated featherweight prior to that. He had beaten all the title holders and was basically the undisputed featherweight champion as Barrera was a bantam weight prior to moving up to face Hamed.

Morales was WBC champion but had picked up the title that had been vacated by Soto to face Hamed. But Hamed was proven at the weight, beating all the title holders at the time, Robinson for the WBO, Johnson for the IBF, Soto for the WBC and Vasquez for the WBA. Yes the division wasn't strong much like middleweight now but Hamed had done his job and cleaned out all the champions.

Golovkin unlike Hamed hasn't beaten all the title holders. When GGG has beaten WBO title holder Andy Lee and IBF champion Jermaine Taylor and is also a huge draw like Hamed was, then you can compare him to Hamed. Golovkin hasn't achieved what Hamed has so far, doesn't mean he won't though, he has time.

Hammed beat himself when he split from Brendan Ingle and decided he knew better! He filled his team with yes men and sycophants who stroked his ego and fed his narcissism.

You can track his downward spiral from that split, had he stayed with Ingle and kept his feet on the ground he was a certain ATG.

To me he's a cross between a MW Artur Abraham and Edwin Valero.

No and not even close. Naseem had insane publicity compared to GGG and brought serious excitement/attraction to the lower divisions. His resume, at the time when he was slowly getting publicity, tramples on GGG's and can't even be compared with.

Prince Naseem was PAST PRIME vs Barrera.

'Hamed got schooled' - GTFO. Even being past prime it was an 8-4 decision, not exactly a schooling.

Take a seat there kiddo, it was a schooling. He was also nowhere near past prime.

    In some respects the opposite

    GGG gets ducked like crazy

Hamed ducked the 3 amigos for as long as possible before getting his schooling

Super exciting fighter we still miss to this day, but not a patch on GGG either as a fighter or as a human being

    1. He left Ingle for years who kept his head screwed on. Hamed was getting reckless in the ring and it wasn't just because of better competition. It has a similarity to Tyson minus Cus D'amato. Steward-Hamed combination didn't even work well.

    2. Hamed's hand issues were very severe by the Barrera stage, Manny Steward stated this was one of the reasons why he retired.

    3. It was known that Hamed didn't love boxing anymore, he stated it well before the Barrera fight. His heart wasn't there anymore, he couldn't stand training camps and became so ill-disciplined in them. He wasn't even preparing properly.

    4. Blowing up between fights took its toll. For the Barrera fight, Hamed had killed himself making weight - his training camp was mainly about making weight and he was in the sauna the night before the fight, trying to get down to the weight. He had nothing left in the fight, and certainly had no power when he did land shots.

All of those factors together adds up to a notable whole. He wasn't past his physical prime though. Past prime doesn't actually necessarily mean past physical prime.
