GGG couldn't carry Cotto's jockstrap!

GGG has fought Murray, Macklin and Geale.

Cotto has fought Mayweather, Pacquaio, Martinez. Margarito, Mosley, Judah, Etc

There is no comparison. Only new boxing fans wont understand this.

 

Maybe, but there's more to it than that and you know it yourself so don't act the fool.

There's not much point for him to fight Ward at this current moment of time, better opportunities have opened up for him recently in his own division and there's no chance he's going to move to 168 until he exhausts those unless it's a massive name (of which there aren't any anymore).

So for now the Ward fight is off most likely.

 

The Cotto-GGG situation isn't really a duck to me, Cotto won the Title vs Martinez (a more accomplished fighter than GGG), was in negotiations with Canelo (a more accomplished fighter than GGG) the 1st deal fell through he took a voluntary defense vs Geale(GGG's best win), and is now fighting Alvarez next(again a better more accomplished fighter than GGG).

I agree that it's a mismatch. That's why Cotto needs to vacate. He doesn't need to spill blood.

He has earned the right to walk away with a mega fight.

However, he has not earned the right to hold that belt and prevent other fighters from fighting for it, while refusing to fight at the weight limit. He can never earn that right.

 

Cotto fought geale, ggg's second best win, in his first defence. Ggg needed eight years to fight an opponent of such quality (or lack of quality, because geale is a bum actually, less bum than the others, but a bum at the end of the day)

Cotto's resume, with only two fights, is better at MW than ggg's

Cotto took the belt from a champion, ggg didnt.

What's my point? Ok, I agree with people critizicing cotto, but ffs, it's so funny to watch people that actually defend ggg critizicing cotto. Buy a mirror, men, if you defend ggg you better stfu about cotto.

im tellin you...ggg fans just like saying cottos name since its the only name they can tie to ggg that is actually worth a damn...they look at his resume and are like "well lets talk about how miguel cotto is so scared to death of our ggg...it will make us feel good"...

its not a duck.....cotto got an opportunity presented to him by martinez and he won....and hes capitalizing on it by getting a great cashout fight against canelo.....these guys are whining about some belt....if cotto dropped the belt and ggg fought heiland for it would anyone care or notice?

Let's put it this way:

Froch and Chavez = Big money = move up to 168
Ward (and everyone else at 168) = Not big money = stay at 160

They said it'd have to make sense for them and Ward doesn't..

I wish Ward was fighting back when GGG was a smaller name (back when he said it first), maybe it'd have happened then, but since then GGG has only gotten more and more popular and it's starting to make less and less sense for him to move up.

 

its strange how a guy like ggg can do things that make dollars and sense and its ok....other guys do it and they are scared of somebody else or cherrypicking frauds....weird how it works

Do people realize if Cotto drops the belt Whoever wins it won't be Lineal Champ. It will have ended and a new undisputed Champ would have to be crowned to create a new lineage

 

i swear when these guys say "its ok if cotto doesnt wanna fight ggg just drop the belt tho"...its just to try and make themselves look like they arent fanboys....nobody believes cotto dropping that belt is the answer

Maybe but you can't go black and white like that, you have to look at it from a case by case basis, I had this attitude as well but I think it's foolish in the end not to acknowledge this side of boxing at all, maybe it's due to one of my favourite fighters getting in a similar predicament and I'd admit to that.

Thing is that GGG is not even really a 168lber, he never fought there so if he's cherrypicking opponents based on how much money he'll get from them it doesn't really bother me as much in such a scenario, if they were in the same division it'd be an entirely different matter.
