Yeah well said! If brook hadn't of fought Gavin that night he'd probably only be having his next fight after dan this month or next
Brook didnt have to fight that night so im not buying it the saw the chance to make an easy fight and jumped at the chance if they cant get the names then they shouldnt be mentioning them
Brook won the title in august and then got stabbed and was out all the way until the end of march, the plan was obviously to get the mandatory out the way then when they lost the degale bid they needed kell to step in and headline the ppv (rightly or wrongly) his next 2 fights need to be a huge step up now e.g Bradley and rios is exactly the type of fights he's been talking about, if he announces he's fighting skeete next then yes questions need to be asked but it can't be said as a champion he's ducked people yet
So if he didn't fight he'd just be an inactive champ, he was out for nearly 7 months, why wouldn't he take a fight to get his sharpness up a few weeks after his first defence?
You have 9 months to fight them with the IBF. Brook fought Dan 8 months after Porter. The only way you can prevent from being forced into a mando defense was by a unification fight or you are injured or something. Being that the other two champs were Mayweather and Pacqiuao that wasn't feasible. Secondly why would Thurman be a mando when 1- he's the WBA regular champion therefore exempt from being listed by the IBF. 2- mando's only get 25% of the split, and the champ dictates terms. Thurman can earn far more fighting bums like Collazo on PBC.
yup your right here .... noob error from me forgot about the timeout recovering that he held the title for apologies. Iv not mentioned anything about ducking more about the quality being matched up against. I wouldnt even consider Rios a big fight ... He should be bread and butter for Kell Kell has better boxing brain, technique and footwork, More importantly tho he is stronger tahn Rios which would hve been possibly Rios's only positive over him i think. Bradley, Thurman, Maidana, Pac man, Floyd or Khan. On of those fight please
Brook was the only big name available to Matchroom at short notice. Do you think Froch would've fought at that notice? DeGale had a fight booked with Dirrell, Quigg was injured. No he didn't have to fight, but it needed to be PPV due to the fees they paid Johnson, Linares and Gradovich. No way they could afford that card without PPV. But tell me, which big name they could get as Brooks opponent at 5 weeks notice, that would sell PPV in the UK, being that you have to be in the IBF top 15, cannot be coming off a loss, and there wasn't that much money available because US TV wasn't involved.
Think we'd all love to see those type of fights, floyd seems to be retiring after this fight, khan is clearly ducking, pac is injured, hopefully the Bradley rumours are true
I didnt specifically mean Thurman bud I meant someone of that level if they were mando. Mando spots are manipulated to hell anyway. I would never consider Jo Jo mando level for a world title fight
honestly without checking ... right now i dont know tbh i would need to check however if thats the case then they shouldnt be banding about names they already knew were not feasible
Yep and by the end of Jan, he would have been ordered to face Frankie Gavin or Kevin Bizier anyway, seen as they would currently be number 1 and 2 being that Bundu, Khan, Bradley, Porter, Sadam Ali and Devon Alexander have all withdrew. As it stands the next mando would be Chaves v Bizier, most likely Chaves will be his next mando.
I would be gobsmacked if Floyd retired infact i havent came across a single fan or pro boxer that believes he will retire. Not a single one (at least a genuine one). Bradley or Thurman ... is Maidana available ? How long til Pac can train I think i heard Arum say that he could be back for Jan/Feb?
Chaves is a good fighter was beating rios till he was unlucky and dq and drew with bradley. Chavez can punch and is underrated. Is he a top class fighter? No but he is top 10 just as is rios
Even if he doesn't retire I'm not that fussed about him, he will always do his own thing and have people like Amir begging him for a payday, even the pac rematch will probably have a big chance of being made, I don't think it changes anything for brook if floyd stays or goes
