    Italian Joe Gans a MW who fought in the era of Harry Greb.
    I once met him in the 1940s at Feltman's in Coney Island where he worked.

    awesome.... Lew jenkins, wish there was film of him, I have heard it said by opponents that Jenkins was the biggest puncher of them all, and like Petrolle his body shots were feared by all, didn't know he was a war hero, thanks for that post

    I find Jimmy Ellis fascinating ... remarkable run at heayweight starting in around 1966/67 after falling just short against most of the better competition he faced at middlweight in the early- to mid-1960s.

    As well you should ! Tippy was a million dollar talent with a glass chin. So great a classic/boxer puncher that he outclassed great boxers like Billy Graham and Willie Joyce seldom losing a round
    but his chin was dented by the big punchers of that time like Lew Jenkins, Al Bummy Davis and Beau Jack to name a few...
