A win and loss to Danny Williams and Michael Sprott, and losses to Haye and Dave Price. At first, Harrison was hyped to hell and back, then a loss or two came his way....................
I don't think Audley was really cut out to be a great professional heavyweight. He was obviously an excellent amateur and with his height and reach he was a formidable opponent over three rounds. In the professional ranks though it became apparent in the end that he wasn't much of a puncher and couldn't take a big punch either. It probably didn't help matters that he was pushing 30 when he turned professional and was then brought along at a snail's pace with injuries etc adding to the less than hectic schedule. His first loss was that dreadfully uncommitted performance against Danny Williams and then they tried to bounce back by putting him in with a reasonably 'live' body and he lost to Dominick Guinn. That was really the end of any hope of Audley living up to even half of the expectations that he'd been peddling since the Olympics. I thought his best performance came in the rematch with Williams but we rarely saw that Audley in the ring. The bad kayo loss against Sprott was more or less the end of any serious aspirations.
With the trend of being beat by the same fighter twice (like Joe Frazier) who himself did an Evander Holyfield.. it's probably easier for a David Tua type to fluke gold because his hook carries a lot of distance anyway.. but I doubt Joe Frazier would have reigned number one in the WC era.. that's not to say a Lennox Lewis and a Rid**** Bowe can't exist in the same weight. But Joe Frazier will always be #3 to Ali & Foreman.. he only beat Ali with the 3 years out.. who knows what Ali did in those 3 years.. Joe Frazier will always be beat in series by Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. And any guy with a similar record.. It's rare for any fighter to go truly unbeaten unlike Calzaghe or Ottke.. Only examples are Mayweather or Marciano.. and Marciano never fought past 32 and or Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson. Any other examples are simply Manny Charr retiring with an 0.
Of course some guys who would always win the series Titlebout style are currently behind.. after infinity.. one fighter is better. George Groves.. Bernard Hopkins.. Manny Pacquiao (or is Manny already in the lead?) My point is.. Audley has never been beaten twice by the same guy. Not only that.. 7-0 would give him the greatest record of any fighter maybe. I think Ali currently holds the record 6-0.
The size of him he should of been a bully, kept everyone and anyone on the end of a jab but the truth is he was scared, he used to look petrified when someone threw a shot at him, he simply had no heart and would take loss after loss if it meant not getting hit to hard
Some guys might go 5-2 in rematches and kneel to the champions.. But they know when to stop with 2 or 3 losses.. like Manny Charr before the losses.
