To me it proved that Vitali at his best could compete with the very best. Lennox didn't even look that fat and out of shape to me, and he was being aggressive, he came at Vitali with everything he had.

And there's a huge difference between being 3rd or 4th best, is that it?

Does Vitali's loss to Lennox Lewis undermine his legacy?

Negative - Losing to one of the greatest (top 5) heavyweights ever does nothing but boost his legacy. Given the fact he took bombs from Lennox and was ahead on points at the time of the stoppage speaks well. Yes, techincally it's a TKO loss but Vitali is more well known for this loss then any other win on his resume.

His fat was very noticeable. You can notice an almost-formed pot belly in the post fight interview with Merchant.

Lewis was 257lbs for Vitali, against Tyson (his fight before Vitali) he was 249lbs.

Totally agree there, a midget of a ref who didn't protect Vitali from the illegal stuff from Lewis but as I said tko6 is the recorded result, undoubtedly Lewis's best career win but defo not performance.

It was Lewis's jab that cut Vitali not his "power" ...

Vitali would struggle against every tall jabber in the division. Like Lewis, Wlad, And both Furys. But he would easily spark out every powerful ATG puncher who lacks a great jab.

Lewis did an incredible amount of hitting and holding in the fight, his left arm was wrapped around Vitali's neck just about the whole bout and he was pressing the right glove and grazing the flesh - all illegal. His clinching technique wasn't just to hold but also to injure. Wlad never does that in his clinches, but then again he's never faced a guy as serious as Vitali.

That's not Lewis's best career win, considering that Lewis has beaten better competition. I can't see a good career win that Vitali really has. Who has Vitali beaten that's notable?

Funny we talk about ''illegal'' tactics, how many times has Wladimir Klitschko got away with excessive holding?

Who was it that Lewis beat again, a shot Mike and old man Evander UD, an MD over Ray Mercer? Ruiz did no worse vs old Evander. Tell me the Lewis win bigger than Vitali please? If you take Vitali off his CV he drops way down the atg list.

Evander by 1999 was still a champion and was coming off wins from a favorite Mike Tyson and avenged losses from Moorer.

We've then got Lewis getting wins over Tua, Morrison, McCall, etc.

Vitali hasn't beaten anyone noteworthy. Look at his record, it's full of garbage competition.

Bert Cooper did better damage wise vs Holyfield, be serious. And VK's record is full of guys with 0's and KO records you mean, idiot. There's no McCall 1 or Rahman 1 disgraces on Vitali's record. :hi:
