i don't think he deserves all the credit he was given for that fight. hearns broke his hand in the first few exchanges. now im not saying that the fight would have gone the other way, hagler would have probably knocked him out anyway but just the fact that hearn's power didn't carry on for more than the first round has me wondering if the outcome would have been different.

Yeah, in general, I've always had mixed feeling about this one and the exaggerated way that it gets used to bolster Hagler's legacy. Not his fault that Hearns broke his hand and fought an extremely stupid fight. Not his fault that Hearns wasn't nearly the monster at middleweight that he was at lower weights. But it bothers me when folks like Hopkins and Golovkin get knocked for not having a "Hearns" on their resumes.

You have to remember that Hagler-Hearns came right after Hearns destroyed Duran with that same right hand. Nobody did that to Duran. Broken hand, massaged legs, fight hype and Hagler all had to do with Hearns getting stopped.

No way does Hagler get credit for knocking out Hearns... the credit should go to Jeff Fenech......................

    It's hardly Hagler's fault he's got a hard head.

Hearns always had those same shaky legs.
I read I think it was in Kim***** book that Manny said he was out of the dressing room for a while and when he got back 1 of Hearns onterage guys was massaging his legs which infuriated Steward who then cleared the room.
He went on to say that it ruined Tommys legs and that's why he instructed Tommy to go for broke. True or not? Only Tommy knows but I would have liked to c a remach.
I think with today's technology that conditioning trainers have maybe they could have come up with a solution with Hearns legs.

Like several other Kronk fighters from that era, Hearns all too often kept his left irresponsibly low. Paid for it (just like McCrory paid against Curry)

Damn right! Hagler was a bad MoFo. A case can be made that he never lost in 67 pro fights and that the only knockdown he suffered was bullshlt (vs. Juan Roldon).

62-3-2 (52) overall and 13-1-1 (12) in MW World Title Fights (his first world title fight was in 1979, his last was in 1987). He lost close fights to Bobby Watts LMD10, Willie Monroe L10, and Sugar Ray Leonard LSD12. He drew with Sugar Ray Seales D10 and Vito Antuofermo D15. He also beat Bobby Watts, KO2. He beat Willie Monroe twice, KO12 and KO2. He beat Sugar Ray Seales twice, W10 and KO1. He beat Vito Antuofermo KO4. He couldn't get a rematch with Sugar Ray Leonard so he stayed retired.

He also beat Bennie Briscoe W10, Mustafa Hamsho twice; KO11 and KO3, Alan Minter KO3, Roberto Duran W15, Juan Roldan KO10, Thomas Hearns KO3, and John Mugabi KO11 among others.

Hagler deserves a lot of resepect.
