Zale fought a few black fighters, none of whom were the best black fighters out there. He went 2-2 with Nate bolden

Pre War he fought the best white fighters possible in a racist time period.

Post war, he ducked number 1 rated Lamotta and number 2 burley to fight the soft graziano

Zale was not a great fighter. He doesn't have the resume. Because of fighters like him, we have books on black murderers row and how they never got there shot.

Look at all these hall of famers Zale missed out on

    Lamotta
    Moore
    Charles
    Richards
    Burley
    Wade
    Chase
    Cocoa Kid
    Lytell
    Williams
    Booker
Were all ranked during Zale's time at ,or near the top.

Let's hear the excuses from Zale fans on why he missed out on all of these guys, he doesn't have a single one on his resume.

Zale held the title in the strongest era in middeleweight history and fought none of them!

    His resume of

    Apostoli- inconsistent
    Hostak - lacked skills
    Abrams- his best win
Soose- lost to him as well

Just doesn't cut it as a great fighter

Zales biggest problem is he lacked defense. He had severe problems with boxers throughout his career because he wasn't hard to hit. That's why counterpunches who were slick like Charles burley Moore would have picked apart Zale.

    Lost twice to Bolden

Got flattened in one round by Jimmy Clark

"Jimmy Clark, speedy young middleweight from Jamestown, N.Y., smacked out a one round knockout over Tony Zale, of Gary, Ind., in the feature bout of a club card here last night. Zale stepped into a knockdown in the first punch and was counted out after hitting the canvas twice more." (Hammond Times)

Zale fought Billy Conn directly after Conn nearly became heavyweight champion of the world. If we are saying he lacked the courage of a great fighter than that is ridiculous.

His resume is not very strong compared to some other great middleweights, however.

    Boxing is a business.

You've been given a logical explanation by Burt as to why he fought Rocky.

How on earth have you got the cheek to call Burt close minded?

    Talk about irony.

The ONLY so called evidence that you've put forward for Zale ducking them, is because he didn't fight them.

I have these same arguments on a regular basis regarding Roy Jones.

It's not a duck if Rocky brought in considerably more money than the likes of Burley did.

Not fighting someone isn't an automatic duck.

It seems that you will point blank ignore any circumstances.

I have been posting on this forum for 10 years. Burt is set in his ways, whatever the old time experts say about a fighter, Burt sides with that opinion. He doesn't have enough confidence to make up his own mind on a fighter. I'm sure he's a super nice guy, if he ever came out to boston I would have a beer with him.

I have a three step process for rating a fighter

    Here is my criteria

    1. How good is his resume?

    2. Did he take on the best fighters of his era?

    3. Does he showcase ability on film?

Zale scores low marks on all three for me
