Mikey Garcia - What Happened?

Management issues has set him back for a bit of time I think he is sitting out his contract

 

He's been in a legal battle with TR. It's really sad, it looked like he was on a great career trajectory.

I hope he gets back soon, he's lost almost 2 solid years of his prime. It will be interesting to see what division he'll campaign in when he returns; there's been rumblings at the Garcia gym that Mikey will be jumping up to the 140 lb division. If he knows what's good for him, he'll sign with Haymon and hopefully start fighting 2-3 times annually.

 

He got lured into thinking he should be with Al Haymon, then started the legal issues with his management to try and get released. He's been sidelined ever since. Mikey is a great talent, but he himself said his heart is not in the sport, he just does it because it's what his family expects of him. Sad really, he is the best fighter that his family produced. It makes me wonder if he's this good without really wanting to be in the sport, how much better would he be if he was 100% committed?

 

I don't think that's a fair assessment to make. These are prizefighters, not street fighters. When they reach a championship level, their focus shifts a lot more to maximizing what they can make financially. If money is their primary reason for fighting, that doesn't necessarily correlate with them not giving their all.

Ray Robinson mentioned a million times how much he hated the sport and how he only fought because of the money. Hagler is considered a take on anyone killer, but the moment he won the title against Minter, all he cared about were big money fights. I don't think anyone would say either guy is guilty of not being 100% committed.

He's done an "Andre Ward", shame because Andre Ward I wouldn't mind had he not fought again but Mikey Garcia on the other hand is such a beautiful boxer to watch, it's a shame

Mikey shouldn't have ducked Gamboa. It was an easy win for him and look how much it raised Crawdaddy's stock.

 

I remember him buying crocodile skin boots on Ellie Suckball's video. After buying them boots, he probably thought "I got friggin crocodile skin boots, my life is complete. I can rest"

 

I think Garcia should fight at 135 before he goes to 140.
