Yeah but Wlad is going to retire soon too, so take out Floyd, Manny, Wlad, Marquez, Sergio, Cotto, all the old guard and who do you have left? Rigondeaux is getting older now so might as well remove him from contention too. Ward has lost the fire in his belly. Froch is retired. It's a changing of the guard.

GGG, Kovalev, Gonzalez, Crawford, Alvarez, Joshua? Usyk, Lomachenko, Inoue? Perhaps, some medalist at the next Olympic games?

It is usually always someone in the lower weights, Lomachenko has my pick.

    They aren't Gonzales

    For me, GGG/Gonzales/maybe Lomachenko

I honestly can't think of anyone in the welterweight division :scaredas:

It's also what everyone said about Estrada when he fought Viloria.

    How'd that go?

I like Viloria and I rate his resume pretty highly. He's just not quite the same (he was inconsistent even during his prime) and he's in with a completely legitimate monster.

You will rate Romans' victory even higher than the rest of us will. Good. Enjoy it.

Lomachenko? He'd have to clear out 126 completely, as in beat multiple top 5'ers, to elevate in that sort of conversation. I mean, you do realize he's only beaten one top 10 opponent?

Roman/Wladimir/Kovalev/Ward/Rigondeaux are next up after Floyd at the moment.

Yeah, Roman Gonzalez most likely, if Kovalev did fight (and beat) Ward and Stevenson, he'd be #1 but that's too speculative, as it stands - it's Gonzalez.

If he beat Rigondeaux he'd have beaten a better opponent than either Kovalev (unless he beat Ward), Roman, Wladimir and Ward have in their careers.

I'm not sure if that makes him p4p #1 though, I mean generally Rigondeaux is regarded as about #5-#8 so beating him alone wouldn't get him to the #1 spot immediately in my eyes. he'd have to beat another good opponent and prove some consistency.

It's either Lomachenko, Ward or Gonzalez

The start of 2017 is basically when they both retire:

    Vasyl Lomachenko
    W Rigondeaux (ATG win)
W Selby (WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF)
W Russell Jr-Mares/Valdez winner (WBC, WBA, WBO)
    W Cuellar (WBA super)
    W Russell Jr

Lomachenko has already beaten current lineal featherweight champion Russell Jr. He'd clean up the featherweight division, and have a truly ATG win vs Rigondeaux.

    Andre Ward
    W Kovalev
    W Beterbiev
    W Froch
    W Kessler
    W Dawson

Ward would have earned the status of an ATG having moved up to 175lbs and unified there, after having been THE champ at 168lbs.

    Roman Gonzalez
    W Estrada 2
    W Inoue
    W Viloria
    W Yaegashi
    W Sosa

Roman Gonzalez would have cemented himself as an ATG Flyweight with a resume that surpasses that of the great Ricardo Lopez.

    It's anyones pick.

Golovkin will not be no.1 because of the lesser quality opponents even if he unifies, and Kovalev will get beat by Ward.
