Yeah its pretty easy to selectively pick and choose performances.. Mind if I try?

    - Patterson wins the title in vacant fashion from a 40 year old ex-light heavyweight - middleweight.

    - Patterson then defends his title against a notably weak list of challengers while avoiding the better ones available

    - Patterson fights a debuting amateur who drops him in the first round of their fight.

    - Patterson gets knocked out by a relatively unknown swede who ultimately retired with Floyd being one of only two notable people he ever beat.

    - Patterson loses his title in only one round then gets beaten just as easily by said challenger a year later...

    How did I do?

I agree with this. Perfect modern heavy for Patterson to beat. And I rate Byrd and think he hangs in as a good contender in any era.

Its also pretty easy to word things negatively if it suits your opinion. eg Here's some alternatives :
That 40 years old ex lightheavyweight was on an 11 fight winning streak since losing to ATG Marciano 8 of those wins were inside the distance.

He had lost just 2 fights in the previous 5 years.
Patterson himself was an ex-middleweight and 5.5lb s lighter than Moore for their fight.

Patterson defends against ranked contenders,Johannson Harris,Jackson and London.Harris Johannson and another challenger McNeeley are all undefeated.

Patterson gets knocked out by the number one contender who had earned that ranking by koing the previous number one contender inside a round. Patterson rematches him and ko's him he repeats the result in the rubber match.
Patterson's ko victim retires with just 2 losses on his sheet , both to Pattterson who is the first man to regain the heavyweight title.

None of Patterson's 6 successful title defences go the distance.

Patterson defends against the number one contender who out weighs him by 24 lbs and is an ATG puncher , he is stopped .He also loses the return. He then has a further 21fights beating among others Chuvalo,Cooper,Bonavena and the man he is accused of having ducked Machen, draws with Quarry, loses a close one to Quarry loses a very debatable dec to Ellis, loses 2 fights to the consensus number1/2 Ali.Then he retires.

    How did I do?

Which was precisely what I was trying to illustrate to Dino and also why you didn't need to take the time to write a novel, as I am well versed in the details.

I'll give it an 8 out of 10.

I think this would be a good fight. Patterson had faster hands and better power, but Byrd had a heck of a chin, better defense, plus he was a south paw who fought smarter.

Could be a tough one to score. Patterson with his superior punch out put, or Byrd with his defense and countering?

I'd go with Patterson via decision, mostly because I think he's throw and land more and Byrd didn't have the power to make him think otherwise.

On Patterson, he drew with Quarry, and barely edged a slower Chavalo. Due to his style, he was there to be hit. So Byrd could out box him.

Good matchup. I like Patterson here. His vulnerable chin and insecurity complex won't be a problem against Byrd who, while quite good, seemed to struggle with fast guys.
    Floyd was fast.

9 out of 10. The icing the the cake would be he was down 18 times, and after loosing to a Swede ( Where boxing was pretty much banned ) used disguises to go out in public to hide his shame.

But give Patterson bonus points. He was a stand up good guy with a fan friendly style. I think he would have beaten a few past champions
and few good champions some trouble.

number one contenders are pretty irrelevant ,in any match up eras...ATg's aren't skills and certainly not past time top contenders...to put it simply Byrd would literally toy with weak chinned Patterson...the spedd and power are there..stlye I like Patterson but hes to unrefined..hewas a Cus experimwent that ended into Tyson...Floyd loses this one easily by the bigger more awkward byrd on defense and chin.
