And I've wondered if its possible to obtain the guest list of the viewing party... Surely there are people out there who attended that can be contacted, if anything, simply to gain insight into what they saw and how they interpreted it.
Bumping this thread. There is such as thing as private showings, and they are most often hosted by someone with a lot of money. The old " sport lifestyle " still exists for the very rich, and like fight club, they don't talk about it! Did Long see Greb vs Walker? Possibly. Why not ask him?! Perhaps this the the man >>> Craig Long can be found : https://twitter.com/longchops77
This is something that has always bothered me a lot, I want to see Greb fight as much as anyone, I remember looking and looking in vain for film of him. What bothers me is that I know at most major fights there were film cameras at them, I know that Darcy v Jeff Smith I and II were both filmed, same goes for Darcy v McGoorty II, Darcy v Hardwicke , Darcy vs everyone from the second Holland fight to the Chip fight in fact. I know this from reading newspaper reports, especially from a New Zealand paper where they mention people going to cinemas in large numbers to watch Darcy fight. It seems that many fighters would draw a large audience at cinemas and I can't imagine Greb not being popular as well, from what I have read he was a crowd pleaser like Darcy. Mickey Walker would have been too and Walker v Greb is said to have been a real barnburner of a fight. Surely dozens of Greb fights were filmed yet so far nothing has turned up. Problem is that these old films can only survive if someone in the past copied the original as none of the originals could possible be watchable, indeed they are all dust now, lets hope someone did this for some Greb fights and while we are at it, I wanna see Jack Britton, more Benny Leonard, some Joe Walcott, some Young Griffo, some Frank Erne, some Tommy Ryan and others. I wanna see lots more, including more Darcy especially the Jeff Smith fights so we can all lay that controversy to rest................................ hey Klomps, you haven't seen them and hidden them cos they show that Smith indeed got annihilated did you ? (just joking Steve), we have too many greats with zero footage of other than the guys I mentioned already.
I too am very sorry to hear it Klomps, I know cancer personally, I have been fighting it since February this year and so far I have defied all the gloomy predictions from the doctors and am hopeful of winning this fight, will be off chemo in two weeks time. Glad to hear he is doing better, it gives me hope. I am not clear of it yet but the chemo has killed most of it so where there is life there is hope.
Yes you do Barney, I know your work well mate and you know me from there, my moniker there is the name of a Darcy opponent. That video tribute you did for Darcy was real nice work by the way.
Klompton, https://twitter.com/PunchZoneAris/st...95811118411776 Says Grebs 2nd to last fight is out there. Aris Pina is : CompuBox Operator, PunchZone Operator. Voting member of International Boxing Hall of Fame. Any reason to doubt him? https://twitter.com/longchops77 Craig Long Said he saw a Greb fight in 1978 at a private showing.
Fans of Greb can take solace that his 2nd to last fight was a good indication of his skills. Greb vs Allentown Joe Gans. The last five rounds of the bout were fought in a drizzling rain. According to the Pittsburgh Post, Gans won only one round, the sixth, although two or three others could have been called even. Greb was as fast as ever, showering blows on his bewildered foe. Gans did land a steaming right in the 6th that hurt Harry and kept him under control for the rest of the round. Greb was in complete command in the last four rounds, when he opened his bag of tricks fully and Harry got a great ovation when he left the ring. The report in the Wilkes-Barre Record also felt that Greb won in easy manner, also only giving Gans the 6th round.
No its not. That is a con by con man kurt noltimier. This has been addressed several times before. He doesnt have film of Greb. The film he says is Greb-Gans is clearly filmed in the daytime, Greb Gans was at night. Nevermind that prior to trying to pass it off as a Greb-Gans he was trying to pass it off as Greb sparring Bill Tate (never happened). Before that he tried to sell Dempsey sparring Tillie Kid Herman in 1926 as Dempsey sparring Greb in 1920 and before that he tried to pass of Dempsey sparring Jock Malone in 1919 as Dempsey sparring Greb in 1920. The guy is a liar and a con man. If some one wants to prove me wrong have at it but no Greb film has been found of an actual fight to date.
There is no reason for anyone to keep it secret. I fear the owner left it in a box and it is now dust.
Klompton, You are mistaken. Several IBRO members ( Which Kurt is ) have seen the film and confirmed it. Since you have not seen it, how can you possibly say no? You might not like Kurt. That is your beef, but he is a good collector. Understand this. Steps to identify the authenticity of the video including identifying the referee and weather conditions the night of the fight, as well as having a forensic expert examine the footage to affirm the authenticity of the footage. The names who have seen the film are names I trust. Allow PM's and I'll give you some additional detail.
