Well no way to say who wins for sure, all opinion, my opinion is that Burley would have to do a lot of damage to discourage Tony, I presume we are having this fight mid wartime, any later and I favour Zale but I can't say with any surety but for now I pick Zale to shock all you Burley fans here by winning and along the way hurting Burley.

    Imo burley wins a landslide

Not only was Charlie much greater than zale but stylistically he has a huge advantage over Tony . Tony could not handle good boxer types , charlie's defensive counterpunching style would give him nightmares

Like 20 plus yrs ago I used to talk with Billy Soose on the phone and through letters.
This was way b4 YouTube and I sent him a copy of the Zale fight on VHS the same grainy silent one that is now on YouTube. Zale looked a lot less stiff here than the Graziano fights.
Anyway Billy said to me that he didn't recall all the holding in the fight but that he had to keep tying up Tony cause not only the pressure but also because Tony was the best body puncher he ever faced.
Billy was really kool sent me a personalized autograph.
Now the reason I started this thread is because of lack of footage I don't know how good he was.
BUT there was enough info on him to read that said over and over what a man of high character and morals he was which is why I like him as that's important to me.
Take Hagler for example he was one of my favorites and without a doubt top 4 champ in my book but his reputation in my book is greatly diminished because he basically abandoned his kids wen he moved to Italy.
But c that's my way of thinking cause I'm a father.
I never intended this thread to turn into a overdone race issue. I just wanted info. But I also don't cower wen backed into a corner either.

Are you saying there is film of Zale vs Soose ? gee I hope so, I can't find it on youtube but unlike some, I really like Zale, I like watching the harder types than the dancin types and Tony was hard.

I don't feel like answering SuzieQ directly but he has a right to his opinion about Burley being able to beat Zale, it is unprovable, maybe he would beat Zale but the reverse is very much possible too, Zale was indeed a great body puncher and those types can win any fight given the right circumstances

Tony's biggest flaw was defense. He was easy to hit. A sharp shooter like burley would find his mark over and over again.

I thought the film was on YouTube?
Its not the whole fight but I have it on VHS
Zale fights in a more crouching bending the knees and more upper body movement unlike the stiffer upright style u c against Rocky

He still got hit a lot in his prime, and out boxed on several occasions. Defense was not his strong point, and he typically struggled with counterpunchers. Burley was the best

I would love to see it, please get it converted to mp4 or whatever it takes to get on youtube or if not on a dvd and PM me.... I don't think I have seen Soose fight so it would be a double bonus.
