Really good radio interview with Joe Ward here lads, where he basically admits what we've already known for a few years, that he wasn't dedicated as he should have been and took short cuts in his preparation and training in the past. https://soundcloud.com/midlandssport/joe-ward-double-european-champion Talks about how recent results going against him have made him see that he needed to put more effort in and is ready to give it 100% from now. I think that's great to hear, because we've questioned whether he had the dedication for this sport and for him to admit to past mistakes and promise to work harder is refreshing. Could be the difference between Ward being one of the greatest Irish fighters of all time, or another talent that never reached his full potential.
Guys with Andy Lee and Carl Framptons holding legit world crowns at the moment who do you think will be our next world champ and when?(not counting interms, wbu, supermacs titles etc,)
Next champ will be Ryan Burnett imo, great interview with Ward its good to hear that he realises were he went wrong in past and is now goin to put 100% and that talent alone dosent make you a champ, he also suggested he will be goin pro after Rio which is great to hear !
If we're talking about prospects then Burnett and Quigley would have to be shoe in's. But the immediate future, Stephen Ormond is surely our next one. I can see him having the performance of his life after his frustrations, and getting his hands on one for a short while. Future looks great though with some of the boys that just went pro in the last couple of years. Slowly but surely.
To be honest i would be very surprised if Steve won a legit title,Good fighter but its about levels really, his in europen i would say,he would find it difficult to beat most top ten guys,Nice guy and good tough exciting fighter but just not top tier, Some of the guys turned over are exciting though Sutcliffe Mc Carthy and Sheehan are three i will enjoy watching progress,
John Joe Nevin won his fight tonight via round 3 RTD and became the first man to stop his Mexican opponent in the process. Great to see John Joe back, and here's to hoping that he's back on track for good now:deal
Seen that, I know a lot of people think his style is not suitable for the pro's but I disagree, you don't have to be a head first fighter to be a top pro-see Floyd and Rigo. Good luck JJ, keep her lit!
I'll eat my hat if at least 3 of Quigley, Burnett, Mccarthy, Sutcliffe, Carroll, Conlan, and Barnes don't win world titles
