See, to me, this is the key thing right here. When a fighter goes nearly SEVEN years, and the only halfway decent fighter his management has put him in with is Bermane Stiverne, you know that they know something's up.

And even though the Sconiers fight got taken down, we still have evidence in that amateur video and in the Nichols fight what that "something" is.:yep

I rate his defense worse than his chin.
his chin is probably 4-6 but defense on the inside is 2-3.
He puts his muffs on and waits for the storm to pass.
That's not gonna work against good punchers with speed and a varied attack.

If this is all true than what does that say about the shape of the heavyweight division since he is clearly one of its best fighters?

 

He doesn't have the self belief of a true Champion.

Duplass is the type of guy he should have fought after he beat Povetkin.

Molino was the gimmie fight . Who takes two gimie fights in a row without ever beating anybody of note.

To be fair, a lot of people thought Stiverne would beat him. Stiverne might be the worst title-holder ever at HW.

 

The Nichols fight..ROFL.. Should've been a finalist on America's Funniest videos.. Instead that clown went on to be champ, and the Worm went back to being a dishwasher at Butterbean's bbq restaurant

 

I strongly disagreed for a few reasons:

1) Wilder, while he has flaws and I can certainly see how it's a KO waiting to happen, is still a very good heavyweight in the division even if you don't consider him the best.

2) Wilder started boxing much older than you would like. The man is obviously athletically gifted, and that's what he has been leaning on in boxing.

3) The lack of amateur background/overall experience is a huge factor in Wilder's performances in my view. It's really hard to say how good he could have been if he started boxing at say, age 8, instead of an adult.

In summary: The guy isn't "garbage." It's just another athletically gifted guy who picked up boxing late. There have been many like him, and yes, their flaws are noticeable. That doesn't make them "garbage" though. And the man gave up college scholarships to go straight into boxing to support his daughter. That should be noted, and respected.

 

Be very careful, folks don't like hearing anyone talk bad of Wilder round here.

He's the US champ after all.
