you are misunderstanding me. I am not blaming Floyd for fighting Ricky when he did. This is Ricky's fault entirely, no one had a gun to his head forcing him to eat junk food and drink himself into oblivion. But to say that Ricky was prime in his fight with PBF is lunacy.

Floyd was always the better boxer out of the two. Anyone that knows boxing knew that Floyd would win.

Great names fought at the wrong time.

Still they were far from washed up by the time he got to them. Even Mosley was a semi decent force back in 2010.

Corrales, Castillo, and Hatton are the definite HOFers Mayweather definitely beat in their primes. Genero Hernandez, Gatti, Oscar, Mosley, and Pacquiao were all past prime, and if Canelo's a future hall of famer he was a bit too green to be considered prime. Cotto could be considered prime, but 2008 Cotto would've been a greater win.

But really, what hall of famers who fought in or close the division Floyd was in at the time have there been to fight? Even if he avoided Margarito and Paul Williams they don't have close to HOF records. Tsyzu's about the only hall of famer Floyd could be slighted for not fighting at all. Is anyone claiming he should have fought Bradley? He can't be faulted for fighting Gatti and De la Hoya past their primes, because he was chasing first Gatti then Oscar long before he fought them. Prime Mosley left lightweight just before Floyd moved up to lightweight.

The slight against Floyd is he's fought undeserving fighters like Guerrero and Berto for big money when there's better opponents to fight, but he's still managed to fight every great fighter out there for him to fight. If Floyd doesn't have as many HOF wins on his record as many past greats he can't be faulted. He beat all the greats of his era, and that's why he'll be looked back on as indeed clearly the best of his era, and one of the very best of all time.

    No one.

Cotto, Castillo, Corrales, Future Canelo, Hatton - all borderline names. None of which should be HOF.

To conclude, Floyd doesn't even have a prime ATG, let alone a near prime ATG, let alone a HOF on his resume.

Oscar, Mosley, Pac were all semi-shot. Marquez in that condition (heavily outweighed in the weigh-in and unable to put on the weight effectively) is a terrible victory. Genaro was past it.

Floyd is not as great as Oscar De La Hoya.

I agree that Floyd has not beaten a clear cut HOF in his prime. The names as you said are borderlines.

It is hard for me to rank him as a TOP 20 ATG. Nevertheless I think Floyd is an ATG and has a solid record.

Sure Cotto, Castillo, Corrales, and Hatton are only 'borderline' HOF. But the point is they were outstanding proven champions, and were four of the greatest fighters available for Floyd. What else could he have done? He wasn't in a position to fight Oscar when he was a lightweight, and didn't bring enough to the table then for a superfight anyway. And would fighting Mosley in 1999 and Pac in 2010 really please the irrational critics?

And we can play this game with every great fighter since the 60s. What HOF fighter in his prime did Hearns beat? And Oscar? He doesn't have a single win over a HOFer in his prime himself. The closest is calling the Tito fight a robbery.

Thomas Hearns has two wins over at least two prime HOF: Benitez and Hill.Possibly 3 if one counts Cuevas.

I am aware that you can pick apart anybody's record. That is not my intention.Floyd has a solid record it is just not good enough to be raned among the very best boxers of all times :deal

I was replying to the guy who said Floyd's record isn't as good as Oscar's . Oscar challenged himself more than Floyd but he came up short against the best most more often than not. And indeed he never beat a HOFer in his prime. I rank Floyd no higher than around 20 all-time myself, because his record doesn't come close to earlier greats who fought so often in deep eras against so many other greats. But I rank him second to only Hopkins in the last 20 years.
