If Golovkin's PPV is a success

the people that will "clamor" to fight him are the same type of guys who are fighting him now...theyll just be paid a little more

cotto will never clamor to fight him...he doesnt need to and hes nearing retirement anyway....canelo doesnt really need ggg...so i doubt hell be clamoring

ward wanted to fight him in oct/nov....remains to be seen if he has interest down the road once hes at 175 for the foreseeable future

but basically itll be the same guys that hes fighting now...theyll just be paid more

 

There is a difference I think between PPV fighter and cash cow. If the GGG fight does 300K+ buys that makes him a legit PPV fighter. If he did over a million that would be entirely different, he'd enter cash cow territory.

Would Cotto get KTFO to fight a 300K buy fighter? Probably not.

Would he get KTFO to fight a cash cow? Probably yes.

 

He has a chance to become a household name within the next 1-2 years. My GF thinks he is cute, my mom says "aww he is sweet" during interviews, and I love to watch him fight. Dude has crossover appeal, and the ladies love him. He keeps knocking fools out on succesfull PPVs and he will take Floyd's place with a quickness.

 

It this PPV proves to be highly successful [which I doubt that it will] then we wont see the Ward fight anytime soon...

 

I would consider 500k buys a huge success for a 1st time ppv
headliner vs an unknown to the masses French Canadian. Floyd's
1st ppv event didn't beat that and we're in an almost depressed
economy now vs then. In addition, Floyd needed Oscar to make
his 1st 7 figure ppv buy figure. GGG would do 1m buys if he was
fighting Cotto or Canelo.

 

Normally I want every PPV to tank. Obviously because we need to get rid of that monsterous system wich has proven to be very bad for boxing in a couple of ways.
BUT... In Golovkin's case a succesful PPV would elevate his status to beyond ignorable and makes it much harder to duck him in the future (the usual excuses don't apply).
Wich makes it kind of a catch 22 for me.

I don't want any PPV to succeed so they have to get rid of it.
I want GGG vs Lemmy to succeed to get rid of the shameless ducking.

By the time Mayweather was 33 years old he already held the top spot for the highest selling PPV in history. Golovkin, OTOH, hasn't yet sold PPV #1. He'll be 34 by the time of his next fight with no marquee opponent on the horizon. The Triple Duck will *never* be the top draw in the sport. NEVER.

 

Triple Duck's PPV has no chance of success. None.

 

Ok, well if you set your bias aside there really is no other way to see him other than a fast rising star with money behind him, and big plans for exposure to the masses.
You don't have to like the guy to see the facts.

Anyone who says "triple Duck" or Floydette or pac****, or anything along those lines immediately loses credibility in any discussion, as it speaks directly to your level of intellect.

 

The bigger question is what if it is a PPV success and David Lemieux wins?

Should Lemieux win, he's got a better chance of becoming a crossover sports/media star and a huge boxing attraction than Golovkin does.

Golovkin has had a title for years and he isn't even considered a financial "player" yet. If he bowls over Lemieux, I don't think a 300,000/500,000-buy PPV changes his status much at all.

Lemieux just won a vacant strap. If he beats Golovkin, everything opens up for him - the Cotto-Canelo winner, a fight with Mayweather on HBO PPV (since Floyd's Showtime deal is up) ... everything.

Also, when Max Kellerman starts riding a boxer's jock ... like he did when he was on ESPN with Judah (before the Tszyu fight) and Rahman (before the Lewis rematch) ... and like he did when he switched over to HBO with Donaire (before he fell off the face of the earth) and initially with Broner (when he was on HBO) ... it's usually the kiss of death.

Kellerman has a man-crush on Golovkin. So I won't be surprised if GGG loses. Kellerman does that to people.

 

It's all about the risk/reward proposition. If the fight is a big seller, the proposition becomes more attractive and GGG will get the big fighters he is looking for, no doubt about it

 

You don't really believe Floyd is actually going to fight a middleweight monster puncher do you? :blood

 

He is my family and friends' favorite fighter. My dad has only watched two fights of his and says, "Now that's a dude I'd pay 100$ for!" Lol

 

Nah, but hey... you never know.. Floyd did say Golovkin was "okay" and that'd he beat him.
