This is tough, maybe Tunney wins this but I am not confident of that at all, Langford vs Greb I would say Langford immediately but this is Grebs conqueror

For the record I rate Tunney really high at LHW, top 3 but also I do not rate Langford as a HW, he isn't, he is too short and his best weight should be a LHW.

Well he couldn't stay ahead of a past-prime Dempsey for ten rounds - prime-for-prime I suspect Langford wouldn't let him off the hook if he caught up to him.

Maybe i'll hedge and go for Tunney over ten and Sam over any longer distance. There is a style advantage for Tunney here I think.

Tunney outboxes Sam, too fast afoot ,too accurate with his left hand, and he has that right straight down the pike to deter Sam from just marching in regardless.

Watching Langford fight against Lang and Jeanette I see one flaw in Sam that Tunney would exploit a good left jab and Tunney is the master of that, this could be tough for Sam.

No question Tunney can out-box Sam. The question is whether he's still vertical by the final bell and he only has to get careless once. Hard one to call. I'll go for a late Langford KO.

Well I guess it all really depends on how well you think Tunney's chin is
I see Langford walking him down firing cannonball like shots to the body and stopping tunney in 10

Tunney can...and would out box Langford...But I think Sam would eventually get to him. Langford by stoppage for me.

Tunney by unanimous decision. Tunneys whole style was built to beat shorter fighters with a small reach. Tunney wasn't versatile but he excelled at his style. He would keep the shorter smaller fighters at a distance and box them from long range. When they got in close, he would clinch and they weren't strong enough to push him around. Tunney didn't fight taller bigger fighters or many punchers. I suspect he would have struggled stylistically vs bigger fighters. In regards to 5'6" Langford, Tunney had fast straight punches and a good jab, Sam would get outboxed at long range. Sam would take too much Damage to mount a comeback knockout shot vs gene.

Some posters might get angry at me for this...but It should be noted had Langford fought in Tunneys era, Sam likely would have never got a fight with gene. Gene never took on any black fighters, he drew the color line.

Read for yourself his view on race

GENE TUNNEY Unbelievable racist content T.L.S. "Gene" on his business letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Stamford, Apr. 8, 1949 to his close friend Robert Gros in which Tunney sets forth his views on the inequality of the races.

In very small part: "...I have learned a great deal about the Negro problem since I have taken this job...the American Negro is no more like his African cousins...than we are like Neanderthal men. The American Negro, without exception, has a good infusion of white blood...[he] is a development of physical selection.Women slaves were serviced by men slaves, just as mares of the racetrack are serviced by great sires. This accounts for much of the physical superiority of the Negro...The intelligent man's objection tothe Negro [is based] on his cultural immaturity...[they] will be accepted by Americans just as soon as he proves his equality culturally and spiritually...Men are not created equal. Not one percent of the people of the world are gifted with brains enough to contribute to the progress of the world..."

Gene Tunney and Tiger Flowers were friends.
