Great fighters that lacked handspeed

Kovalev doesn't have fast hands, but he makes up for it with excellent timing

 

Marvin Hagler wasn't particularly fast, Roberto Duran, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Felix "Tito" Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins. To name a few

 

Not a great fighter but Angulo hasn't done to bad with having very little handspeed

 

how could you be a great fighter without hand speed doesn't make much sense

Kelly Pavlik (not an Atg though) comes to mind. His power and willingness to trade got him through.

 

Good fighters like Brandon Rios and Danny Garcia arent fast. Their jabs are also average and they tend to load up too much. Instead they rely on timing, throwing exactly when the other guy throws. Garcia favours his left hook and Rios the overhand right. Not too mention both have elite level chins so they don't mind taking chances trading.

 

Yeah, Meldrick must have been one of the slowest boxers in history.

 

Cotto and Holmes
They both lacked handspeed but had VERY well timed stiff jabs that would throw off their opponents game

 

Holmes had good hand speed.

 

Easy. Timing+Accuracy+Power>>>>Speed

Punching is about timing and accuracy sir not speed. Boxing drills sure. Fancy for the camera okay. But remember Amir Khan got ktfo by DSG who isn't swift with the hands at all.

 

Vitali... Cotto isn't exactly swift, was gonna say Canelo but that's his footspeed, his hands are respectable. Hopkins I'm tempted to say but he's been ''out of prime'' for yonks and wasn't particularly snail-like in his early days so probably unfair.
