I agree with this. Peter defeated Toney, Maskaev and McLine among others. He Was built very sturdy with good two handed thudding power. Bowe was a guy who liked to mix it up. This has making of a very good fight. Peter was better than Gonzalez, shot Dokes, Mathis, Ferguson, and many others on Bowe's ledger.
Was Bowe the superior boxer absolutely did Bowe often abandon that and get drawn into slug fests absolutely.

 

Didn't McCline drop Peter a couple times in their bout, or am I thinking of Chris Byrd? I'll check youtube right now.

Bowe was drawn into slugfests because he knew his ability would see him prevail. He had confidence, plus fans at the time were infatuated with the powerful heavyweights. It made him more money. Something Holyfield has admitted in the past as to why he opted to brawl and go for the KO.

 

Ok, just visited youtube and McCline dropped Peter 3 times. McCline isn't on Bowe's level.

I've been thinking about this some more. Still picking Peter to lose but I agree that he could give Bowe some very tough moments, given Bowe's lack of defensive responsibility.

Where do you rank Wlad Klitschko in terms of resume heavyweight Top 10 at the moment? And why?

 

I might be the only regular poster here who doesn't make heavyweight lists. Wlad's resume is a bit under-appreciated but I can't see how it would be anywhere near the top 10 unless you fetishize longevity and maybe poundage of opponents.

I don't have a list but head to head, I would rank post-2004 Wlad very, very highly. Probably somewhere in the 5-7 range.

 

There were no 'others'. Toney , Maskaev and McLine were the best he beat.

And he clearly lost to Peter in the first fight. Maskaev was a past prime 38 year old glass chinner and he only very narrowly got the decision against McLine - almost getting knocked out early.
McLine didn't even have a training camp for that fight when he took it on a weeks notice.

Peter couldn't box his way out of a wet paper bag. Jesse Ferguson would have easily beaten Peter.
He beat Ray Mercer to get the shot at Bowe but I guess in Klitschko land , Peter is better than Ray Mercer:roll:
