This is why if Mayweather fights Canelo or Cotto him winning the middleweight belt wouldn't really add very much to his CV. Then he would have to retire ducking Golovkin if he won it and quit at 50-0  If you up above 154 you're fair game.

Yes Martinez ducked him no doubt but you can't blame Martinez for Cotto ducking Golovkin. There was nothing stopping Cotto from fighting Golovin after winning the title other than himself.

As for Martinez I don't blame him for looking for the money. His net worth even now is only estimated at $5 million, it's not surprising he looked to cash out after a long career where he often didn't make much money.

I'd also say he didn't really duck Golovkin for that long. Fact is Golovkin was a paper champion up until Sept 2012 when Felix Sturm who was the actual Super WBA middleweight champion until he lost to Geale. So Martinez ducked Golovkin in favour of Murray and Cotto.

That's a scenario I could see happening, which of course see's Golovkin frozen out once more.

I can't see Mayweather retiring at 49-0, they will throw huge cash at him to face the winner of Cotto/Canelo for the middleweight title. It will be a historic 50-0 and see Mayweather become a champion in another division. At least that's how they will spin it as they ignore that GGG exists.

So you don't blame Martinez, but you blame Cotto?

Cotto is now getting top dollar fighting Canelo. Something he wouldn't get if he immediately fought Golovkin after Martinez. It's a double standard.

Martinez ducked Golovkin, period. He's the one to blame with the legion of fans giving him a pass for Murray saying it was one cherry-pick he deserved before Golovkin. Then he gets the Cotto fight and everyone says he'll fight Golovkin after.

Just so happens that Martinez isn't on Cotto's level and got beat silly all over the ring.

Well I don't know...he's had the belt for over a year and has yet to fight at 160? How naïve are you?

No I blame both for ducking Golovkin but understand both their reasons for doing so though it's more understandable with Martinez as he made peanuts during his career while Cotto has made far more and may still have a few years left in him unlike Martinez who over the last 2 fights of his career was basically a walking injury.

The Martinez that Cotto fought wasn't even on Brandon Rios level, meaningless, hollow win

True Martinez was completely done by the time he fought Cotto. Though Cotto's win over Geale was quite impressive even with the weight draining and I suspect he will beat Canelo.

Not only does Cotto refuse to fight at the 160 pound limit he refuses to fight his Mandatory and keeps paying step aside money. How is that not holding the belt hostage? :huh

Cotto has held the title for over a year. Golovkin has held the interim for 11 months.

Has Cotto fought his mandatory yet? (No) Has he had the opportunities to fight him? (Yes) Has he shown interest in fighting him? (No) Will he give up the belt? (No)

    There you go.

Cotto got the Martinez fight by building his brand better than Golovkin, by taking chances fighting guys he was a clear underdog to unlike Golovkin..funny how you think that's something to laugh at Cotto for, pretty sure you're laughing at the wrong guy.
