I really don't get why British fans are so over the moon about this performance. I guess there's a certain kind of cat that only care's if their fighter won, which explains Mayweather fans. Here's how I saw it.

I'd heard that there was an upset, and the heavy favorite Kameda had lost, so I was expecting some fireworks or a dramatic performance of some kind.

Four rounds in, I have all the rounds scored for Kameda plus a knockdown. McDonnell is now sitting in a five point hole and I'm going "How the hell is this guy going to get out of this? He must really turn it on and get a couple of knockdowns himself later in the fight."

No. There was absolutely nothing interesting about the next 8 rounds. I have never scored so many even rounds. So many blows were parried off gloves or ducked that end of the round scores were like 5 to 6 clean landed punches. Both guys were mirroring the other and fought down to the other's level. You throw two punches, I'll throw two punches. That kind of ****.

    I had it:
    1. K
    2. K
    3. K + knockdown
    4. K
    5. Even, favoring K
    6. Even, favoring K
    7. Even, favoring K
    8. K
    9. Even
    10. Even
    11. M
    12. M

The only way that McDonell wins is if you give him all the even rounds. I watched the Sky coverage which is always ludicrously biased in favor of British fighters. Even they were having a tough time scoring rounds for McDonnell and complained about "so many even rounds". But they still managed to give the fight to McDonnell by one point, by scoring even rounds as McDonnell rounds and Kameda rounds as even 10/10s.

When all is said and done though, Kameda should have done more if he wanted to retain or gain the title. McDonell showed he was Kameda's equal; so I didn't care who won. The difference was one knockdown, so the decision probably should have gone to Kameda if the judges were fair, but really I was so disappointed in both fighters that I didn't care at the end who won.

Now, the caveat before I explain why this was; I had Kameda winning by a point.

But McDonnell was dead to rights by the end of 3rd round. His comeback after that was fantastic and showed the heart of a world class fighter. I think Kameda for some reason took his foot off the pedal, let McDonnell off the hook and it ended up costing him. I don't agree with your scorecard and I think actually Kameda's performance ended up looking ordinary for someone who was touted as a fantastic boxer.

Also, British fans are a nationalistic lot when it comes to our boxers. Unless it's very clear a British boxer lost, some (perhaps even most) of us British will shout that the British boxer clearly won, no matter the result.

Can Jamie duplicate his success in the rematch?

Educate yourself-McDonnell is ordinary in the whole scheme of things.

I think Kameda is going to fight smarter this time and take the win, he's the more talented fighter IMO.

Nothing Kameda has ever shown me backs that up, I've never been too thrilled with him.

Really? If you watched the fight, early on he was looking a class above Donnel, ultimately what cost him was that he gassed out, and McDonnell took over.

If he can fight, smarter, more conservatively, I think he'll win.

I did watch the fight I commented during the RBR, Tomoki looked good for about 4 rounds and Jamie figured him out and took the rest of the close rounds. He looked thoroughly unimpressive against Alejandro Hernandez as well. I think Tomoki is a little bit of a hypejob.
