Can anyone take 88-89 Mike Tyson?

Did Danny Williams have Tysons number too , because he beat the same version of Tyson Lewis did?

One just needs to have seen how bad Lewis had it with Ray Mercer to know he didn't have any number belonging to Prime Mike Tyson.

It wasn't so much confidence, it was a lack of desire. He didn't want be the best HW in the world. He'd stopped training in the same manner. He'd stopped learning. He fought purely and simply for the money. The head movement had gone, the combinations weren't the same. He was a different fighter mentally and physically, but more mentally. He once famously said that his career ended in 1990 and he was right. A post prison Tyson was a completely different fighter to the one who fought Berbick and Spinks. It was just sad for me to watch his career unfold like it did.

Good post... I watched Tyson-Douglas recently and couldnt help but notice Tyson's lack of intensity... Not to take away from Buster because he fought a near perfect fight against the most feared man on the planet, but Mike just was not himself.

 

He's top 10 at best :deal

Lennox Lewis and Holyfield would have beat Tyson at any point in his career.

Thats just naming two modern fighters.

 

I had watched Tyson fights with great focus prior to Buster and I thought the exact same thing as what you posted, his intensity level was great but it wasn't as great as it had been, a drop off for sure. The best intensity he shows is actually after he gets dropped as he then nearly got Buster out of there :bbb

 

Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis. Wlad Klitschko. Ike Ibeabuchi. David Tua, Vitali Klitschko, basically anyone with a strong will to win, a solid punch and a size advantage. Having an iron chin helps but not a critical requirement if size is there.

Like I always say, a man has to take responsibility for his own actions. But Mike wasn't mentally and physically at 100% for the Douglas fight and I'm not making excuses for him. Now maybe if he had've been, the outcome would have been the same? I don't know, but even back in 1990, he'd lost his way. But would any of us have done things differently? He was a 23 year old millionaire with women on tap. Cus, Rooney, Jacobs and Cayton had gone, and they'd be replaced by King and ridiculous amounts of money. Instead of an*lysing old fighters in the attic, he was getting married, getting divorced, and was out clubbing til the early hours. Personally, despite what he weighed, I don't think he ever trained to his full capabilities since the late 80's. He was so sloppy post prison. I hate it when people say that Mike was prime for Douglas, because they only focus on his age. But again, Mike clearly wasn't his best at that point. The Berbick version of Mike didn't go on chat shows and cut corners in the gym. That version was hell bent on winning the HW title in memory of Cus. Again, two completely different fighters.

Well I don't put too much stock in the tucker fight as Tyson was in only his second year and very unmotivated going into the Tucker fight,who basically clinched the entire time,but got pounded as well...I would slightly favor Vitali based on size and skill enough to stop Tyson at his best if I had to pick just one guy in the history of boxing to do so and bet on it.Dont forget tucker past his prime also took lewis the distance.

 

Who made you king of who can and can't comment? Tysons an over rated buy exciting heavyweight who held the title for about 3 years. Good career. No more, no less.
No matter how much you fantasize, he isn't going to do it with you.
