Makabu vs Kucher was another quality encounter from the ''dead division'' that regularly keeps churning out high quality entertaining fights. I rate Makabu highly and whilst I'm not so high on Kucher (although I haven't seen too much of him) one thing that did impress me about him (and I'm only going on what I saw in that fight) is he has got a slab of absolute granite for a chin. Maybe I've overrating Makabu's power a little but I don't think I am.

I've seen Kucher only vs Makabu and wasn't impressed at all, I remember some guy here kept going on about how good he is and I was really underwhelmed.

I've seen him a couple of times, against Makabu and the Frenchman Herelius. I don't rate him highly, although to be fair to him the loss against the excellent Makabu was very close, but his chin in that fight impressed me a lot. He took plenty of bombs in that one flush on the chin yet I don't recall seeing him wobble or hurt at any time.

Agree his chin is pretty damn good it may be close to granite, but I've never been impressed with him otherwise in the 3 matches of his I've seen, I had Makabu-Kucher a draw for the record.

Can't remember how I scored it but it was very close. I think Kucher would be a good opponent for Kudryashov. Be interesting to see if he could crack that chin of his.

It was thinking the exact same thing as I was typing the last post.

I don't remember which rounds I gave who but I usually remember draws since I so rarely give a match a draw. But I had Kucher winning most of the latter rounds.

I thought Makabu won that, that's the only thing I remember and it was closer than it should have been mainly because of Makabu's lethargy.

IIRC, they both had stages in the fight where they won sequences of rounds. I don't think it was like I win won you the next type thing. I might be remembering that wrong though.

Don't remember thinking Makabu was lethargic. Makabu was the more skillful fighter though.

Yeah IIRC Kucher just was a little better in the last 4 or 5 rounds and won 1 or 2 early.

I'll probably watch it again soon, I've always been a bit of chin man. I like fighters with iron whiskers who can take a beating. I find it very manly. lol

    Likely me.

first 4 rounds were close, next 4 Kucher gassed pretty bad and looked sloppy, last four he came on strong with Makabu tiring and Kucher won, should have won, 3 with the 4th being pick'em.

IMO Usyk then Makabu and Kudryashov are the best CW prospect (now contenders) although i'm probably slightly higher on Dima than most here.

I understand what people are saying about his footwork but while he is flatfooted (Makabu is pretty flatfooted too btw) i don't think it does/will greatly impede his ability to get punches off ala Garcia, Rios, Cloud etc.

That said most agree about Makabu and everyone seems to be saying they found Kucher unimpressive while at the same time scoring it very close. Seems somewhat contradictory. H2H Makabu is among the divison's elite you don't fight him to a drawish decision if you're no good. More stamina and he's right there.

All this talk, i'm rewatching it right now that was a really good fight. I would favor Dmytro over Chakhkiev and YPH in part due to chins. Him and Glowacki would be a good one.
