1st round alone is higher quality than 95% of the boxing i have seen take place this year. Both guys slipping and countering in combination, immediately coming back to respond with their own, ripping body shots, high punch output lovely stuff.

This is also helping remind me how awesome Drozd vs Makabu will be.

It really was a good s****. I honestly don't think there are more than a handful of CWs in the world at the moment that could've stood up to being caught with as many clean flush bombs of Makabu as Kucher did that night. I think Makabu would've taken out quite a few CWs who are known for their toughness and durability had he caught them with the amount of clean shots he caught Kucher with too.

I'll hae to see it againt Vysotskyy, I really can't remember it too well now, the reason I think I thought Kucher was unimpressive is because I didn't think Makabu himself was that great, he fought pretty lazily yet whenenver he did stepped his foot on the gas he really hit Kucher with some bombs. I think maybe against a better boxer, Kucher would be outboxed even more.

That's all I really remember (I have a ****ty memory to be honest) and perhaps I'm misremembering how the fight went now.

Lebedev and Kalenga both showed freakish toughness in their fight. Both guys are monster punchers and neither was visibly hurt at any point (in spite of both going down, Kalenga maybe a tiny bit but still)

Just rewatch the 1st round right now and tell me they both don't display complete skill sets, top notch stuff IMO. Makabu has a James Toneyish style and skills couldn't disagree more about him.

Got work in the morning so I only watched the first four rounds, and yeah I have to say I'm still liking what I see from Kucher. Heavy hands, nice punch placement, good handspeed, only thing he needs to work on is his inside game, but he gives plenty of top 10 cws problems.

Makabu of course goes without saying, we all know his quality and hat he's capable of, and he's fighting for a title next, but I really do hope Kucher hasn't stagnated too much, very talented fighter

Lebedev and Kalenga along with Afolabi and Kucher are the first 4 names that spring to mind for me when I think of best chins at the weight. Lebedev cracked Kalenga with a sequence of three lefts at one point, three flush power punches of a monster hitter (I think it was in either the 11th or 12th round IIRC) and he just walked right through them. Crazy.

I haven't seen enough of Victor Emilio Ramirez to be honest but he looks like he's got a very solid chin too. Wlodarczyk's got a good chin too and there are 2 or 3 granite-jawed tough as nails European journeymen CWs who either go the distance with everyone or get stopped very rarely despite the fact they have been thrown in against a who's who of the CW division.

Not sure why everybody is so excited about this fight. Usyk was facing a journeyman, and not very durable one. It is easy to show skills against C level opposition. I am not sure how he would look against a durable pressure fighter like Kalenga.

Here it is. I remembered it wrong it was only 2 (although Lebedev caught him with quite a few hard lefts in that round prior to that too) but they were vicious shots, especially the first one.

Very high quality version of the fight too. From Kalenga's Youtube channel.

Makabu is pretty skilled but I think there are more skilled fighters in the CW division, by all accounts M'Chunu was outboxing him early in the fight until he gassed out.

Couldn't agree more, Lebedev's footwork I think is beautiful in particular. Very underrated.

His footwork is great. I was even marveling at it again a minute ago as I watching the 11th round of the Kalenga fight trying to find the bit were Lebedev caught him with those bombs.

I remember one of the staff members over at the Scene predicted that Kalenga was going to out box Lebedev in their pre-fight predictions. He also said that Kalenga's power wasn't great. I found it very bemusing. Lebedev is a far superior boxer than Kalenga is and Kalenga's greatest strengths are his power and toughness IMO.

Exactly, I think maybe it's the way he looks? And that he's gotten into some wars that people under-appreciate his boxing skill (also power punchers tend to have their skillset ignored by most people), I remember someone here even went as far as to call him an ogre or something like that when referring to his boxing skills.

I personally think he's got a fitting nickname, I find his boxing very aesthetically pleasing, I know that is the old Toney but in that fight in particular he displayed some great skill.
