Ali stated he was better than ever after his quarry win in 71,most people who were around him said he was better including foreman who said 70's Ali became a better fighter who took a better punch ,that would be true ..its on VIDEO..as usual you are out gunned and simply wrong!:yep 205 pound Terrell < 245 pound Wlad..........:smooch
Gavin Evans writes for the boxing news magazine and he has done a full article on boxers lying about their height to gain a psycological advantage over opponents, something that Ali wasnt shy of doing. Read it if you wish, he gets paid for his opinion.
He was not perfect by any means but in the face of adversity he always responded well. Wladimir has not. That to me is a key difference.
I know very well who Gavin Evans is. Been reading his articles since he was just a budding journo. Doesn't make a jot of difference anyhow. Wlad says he is 6'5". That is from the horse's mouth. Making your claim of "5 inches on Ali" even more of a laugh.
David Haye is 6ft3 (supposedly) and you have stated that Wlad is 6ft5. Wlad towered over him, thats the best proof to show that boxers lie abouy height. By my personal opinion, i think Wlad would have around 4 inches on him
I can't post links but a simple google search will find you several pictures of an old Holmes and Wlad and Wlad seems just slightly taller. Like, it's nearly negligible. And Holmes is roughly the height of Ali. Also you can find pictures of the Terell/Ali standoff, and Terell looks a bit taller, and he too is listed as 6'6''.
...Down to 4 now. We're getting there... P.S. WLAD has said he is 6'5". I'm just stating what I saw him say on youtube.
See, now that's different from saying that Ali moved literally all the time and that Wlad could not lay a glove on him, both those statements being 100% horsecra p. You have a point that Wlad can get flustered when hit hard. That he looks less than comfortable under pressure. I can buy that. Whether Ali had the big cannons to put him under those sorts of conditions is up for debate. I doubt it. But certainly MA could improvise, and sometimes brilliantly too. I think that he may have to put up an exceptional performance to beat Wlad ... in my opinion, of course.
Pretty sure that's the consensus around here, very, very few people think that Ali could do it easily.
By definition , a person who laces up gloves and steps into the ring is a boxer- not an athlete. The definition of athleticism is fitness , endurance , conditioning. All of Ali's strengths and Wlads weaknesses. Those who rant about 'modern training methods' are newbie , no nothing casual fans who never looked into the history of the sport. If you think former greats of yester years needed improvements in training , you obviously don't have a clue what you are talking about as the work-rate , stamina , movement , toughness of former greats was on a completely different level than what you see today. A unique combat sport like boxing shares no characteristics to the sports you are comparing it to whatsoever. Boxing is to be compared to boxing or other combat related sports like MMA , wrestling and fencing. It has nothing to do with golf, net ball , tennis you thick turd. Go look up who the best fencers were and you will be taken back 500 years into the past. Go tell a historian that renascence era fencers were nothing cos they didn't have protein powder for their protein shake. Go tell somebody Kell Brook would beat Bruce Lee cos he used modern training methodspatsch
