jones damn sure can't hurt hagler.. and jones really can't run from hagler. hagler with the late ko/tko.

 

No way Jones makes 160 on a same day weigh in. No way he lasts 15 rounds.

 

Why do people think they know that Jones wouldn't have been able to make 160 on a same-day weigh-in? Is there any indication that he was killing himself to make 160 (or better yet 159, like he weighed for several of his MW fights)?

He killed himself for the first Hopkins fight. Jones Jr was originally going to campaign at 168. His first belt was a super middleweight belt.

His struggles to make 160 for the Hopkins fight were well documented at the time, and he rehydrated to 180 on the night. Watch the fight. The commentators even wonder whether his lacklustre performance was as a result of his struggles with the weight.

 

Did he struggle to make 160 in general or just for that fight? What's your source for him rehydrating up to 180? He only rehydrated up to 178 for his fight against Toney at 168 so that seems a bit odd...

 

Jones Jr himself said it during the Brown vs Hopkins fight when he was commentating. Hopkins came in at 163, he was 180. I have no information on his other fights, but he moved up pretty quickly

My fantasy fights are what I call time machine fights. For example, where you'd have the version of Marvin that fought Hearns, against the version of Roy that fought Tate.

I think fantasy fights should always have the best versions of each fighter facing each other.

If Roy had been drained at MW, of course that could have effected his performance.

Why not just assume that Roy wouldn't have been drained? Or are you specifically wanting people's opinions on what would have happened had he been drained?

Alternatively, you could use the young JMW version of Roy that probably could have made 160 on fight night.

Personally, I think it would have been a great fight. But I think Roy's speed would have caused Marvin a world of trouble. I could envisage Marvin beating him, but I don't buy into the theory that Marvin would have crushed him easily, in just a few rounds. And I know that there's a lot of people on this forum who think that that's what would've happened.

Every time this question gets asked, I can't help but think of the 'Superfight' from 87 against Ray. Of course I appreciate that Marvin had slipped at that stage and he was past his best, but Ray was also faded and he'd not fought for three years. Ray caused him all sorts of issues with his movement, and he really frustrated him. And I believe that Ray's movement would always have caused him major problems. And I think that Roy would have too. I'm not saying that I think Roy was better than Ray as a whole, but I think the MW version of Roy was as good if not better than the faded version of Ray who fought at MW. I think Roy was equally as skilled, equally as fast, equally as hard to hit clean, plus he was bigger, stronger, heavier, with much more firepower. So in my opinion, there's no way Roy would have been an easy nights work for Marvin. The fight would have been a very dangerous fight for both guys. But I've got to go with Roy on a conservative (jumping in and out) points decision.

Whats wrong with the version that KO'd another Roy Jones in 3. Then went on a 20 fight run until he avenged the draw with Antuofermo by stopping him in 4, picking up the WBA and WBC titles on the way?
