Why the f*ck not.. I didn't like Whitaker when he was around but that had nothing to do with his abilities which were at the very edge of the spectrum. His southpaw stance and complete understanding of how to exploit it only added to the difficulty of beating him at this weight. Gans had more pop and was a student of his opponents, dissecting them and clinical fashion. Pernell had a tendency to reach with his left. That, in particular, I wonder if someone of Gans' pedigree could exploit... How do you think this one would play out?
He fought in the 'primitive era' where cowhands, farmboys and malnourished hobos with a bit of toughness could jump into a career in boxing ... did he not ?
Tough one to call... two master counter punchers so it won't be that thrilling to watch, though intriguing. Gans will land the harder shots and Pea's safety first style cost him in a few big ones, so I'll go for Gans on points.
