I agree a good team is very valuable. Ward was able to be the home fighter in all of the S6 fights he fought in, never once had to face an undefeated fighter etc, but I think its a shame he was not interested in Bute when Bute was an undefeated world champ in the same division and considered his biggest fight

Unified the division? No he unified two titles, but never once fought any top undefeated fighters or top prime fighters. He beat faded Kessler who beat Froch who beat Bute etc, but Ward never fought one when top and undefeated

Agreed that he should have fought Bute, but Bute wound up being inferior to the Super 6 contestants, which was something I personally recognized from the beginning. But he blew it on that front.

But there were no undefeated fighters left in the Super 6 by the time the semi-finals rolled around.

Bute was only beaten at SMW by Froch who was able to walk through Butes punches. Styles make fights and I doubt Ward could have walked through Butes shots like Froch could or finish Bute in that way. Consider Bute handled prime Bika more convincingly than Ward managed with an inactive Bika.
Bute lost to Froch but that doesnt mean he would have lost to any other fighter who entered the S6. I dont think Bute would have lost to Abraham, Dirrell, Taylor and looked good against Bika who fought Ward at that time and beat Johnson (who had a brief time in the S6) far clearer than Froch.

Ward wasnt interested for some reason and it was a big fight.

As for the no undefeated fighters, Ward never fought any to start with, Dirrell came in undefeated, as did Froch and Abraham, not that Dirrell or Abraham were top SMWs, but they were undefeated.

I am a big fan of the SMW division and enjoy watching all of the boxers in that division but Ward seems hard to work out at times

I do agree about what you wrote about a good management, consider that Froch fought every original member of the S6 as well as Johnson and was away for 5 out of those 6 bouts. I think Froch was a bit fatigued towards the end, with all of the having been away

Based on beating already beaten past best fighters?
    Or for winning a unification?
Due to other fighters getting into the HOF?

What have you based this opinion on?

Yes. He legitimately cleaned out a division that had a great deal of talent. He's been inactive quite a bit. But, talent and resume wise he is there.

Those saying he needs to beat GGG and/or Kovalev or even Beterbiev to get in or even become an ATG need your head examined. In actuality, they all need HIM.

Ward isn't a HOFer yet but how in the hell do you argue GGG is an ATG and Ward not a HOFer when Ward has a better resume and has actually beaten elite fighters?
