    I remember the 1980s.
At his peak he was less famous than Michael Jackson, Madonna, Eddie Murphy, Prince, Ronald Reagan, Mikhail Gorbachov, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone etc.
I suppose he replaced Mr. T whose huge fame ebbed away around 1984 or '85.

Both Ali and Tyson were referees at WresleMania events. That takes something special to pull off!

Well, all those "stars" you mentioned paid to see Tyson fight in person. And none had the staying power Tyson had. These are the facts.

They might have paid. They might have been given free tickets from promoters. It doesn't matter. I'm sure Tyson paid to see their movies and buy their albums.

I assume you're joking about "staying power".

Who had the staying power that Tyson did? Michael Jackson and Madonna probably did. But Prince? Eddie Murphy? Gorbachev??? I know you're not fond of Tyson but come on.

Edit: Arnold and Sly fell off BIG TIME in the 90's. Tyson had staying power for 20 years as a pro and the 10 years since retiring he's still up there and I see him becoming more popular as time goes on, however much time we have left on this planet.

I know you're VERY very fond of Tyson, so I won't stress the point too much.
Okay, so you concede Madonna and Michael Jackson. I never said they ALL had more staying power, you stated the reverse of that.

Tyson was in jail about 4 years of the 1990s. Schwarzenegger and Stallone were doing True Lies and Cliffhanger (big grossing film successes) while Tyson was in some cell reading a book.
I can't remember either of them falling off to that same extent, not then, and not since.
Those two are still worth about £300 - $400 mill apiece, Tyson isn't. Nowhere near. I'd be surprised if he has millions at all.
If he's lucky they might give him a part in their next sh!t Expendables movie.
I'm sorry, but that's the reality of the situation.

To be fair, Tyson does now have his own cartoon series, which must be a first for a convicted ******, and definitely a sign of enduring iconic status.

Tyson is definitely a unique and interesting case. He seems to have mounted a brilliant 'comeback / re-invention' of himself.
Finances aside, he's carved out a nice little patch, so it seems. And he's done all the ****** scandal stuff at 'the right time', quite near the beginning ... unlike, say, Bill Cosby, or even Michael Jackson's allegations, who left it until late.
Cosby's reputation especially, lies in tatters.

They're probably worth more than Mike because they're in a different business. That's not fair. You can't really compare them that way, right Mayweather?!

Ok, let's look at it like this: could Mike make the transition to action movie hero and be successful? Stallone doesn't count on this one, but could Arnold make the same impact as a professional boxer or even one of those silly "Celebrity Boxing" matches? You can't compare them with dollar signs, really.

It's like the old cliche, you can ask anyone in the world who Mike Tyson is and they'll know. Can you do the same for Sly and Arnold? I'm not so sure. Staying power, bro.

So what do you think people all over the world do more often? Watch Tyson fights, or listen to songs written by Prince like Nothing Compares 2 You, and Purple Rain? EVEN TODAY. I'd say Sinead O'Connor is worth more than Tyson these days and she only got the performing rights. Prince gets the royalties.

more people world wide know Tyson then Sinead O'Connor because the Chinese and Indians got into Tyson in the 80's in a huge way. Chinese weren't too hot on Sinead and took a long time before they even heard of Prince.

that's how incredible the Tyson phenomenon was. Then girls started accusing him of horrible stuff he would never do, that's how famous he became Foxy!!! Can you even wrap your brain around that? Or is it too much for you and do you feel the need to blame him because of your denials of your own jealousy towards Tysons greatness???

Greatness and fame are too completely things. Tyson might be in the top 5 in terms of fame but he certainly isn't in terms of his ring accomplishments.

And in terms of fame at one point Ali was probably the second most famous person behind only Elvis. Both **** on Tyson in terms of world wide fame.
