Mercer was a notoriously lazy trainer. Look at his first few fights...all under 220 and he was a full-grown man, not some young pup who was inevitably going to put on weight. And well done for picking one of Norton's lightest fighting weights. Even so...20 pounds. Not a huge difference.
Norton, going away. Mercer has a concrete chin but he sure doesn't like it to the breadbasket. And that's what Kenny did with both hands. Mercer would have alligator arms by the 3rd round and would do nothing but absorb in the subsequent rounds. And Ray does not have the gastank to compete and hang in there with this guy and maintain any sort of power punch. That big punch would be subtracted and Ray does not have the toolset to do much else than take a licking.
Ken actually had some good performances weighing anywhere in the 215-222 range. He was 222 when he blasted out bobick in one round. he was 218 when he dominated Quarry. around 220 for both of his fights with Young and Holmes. To think that he'd do well against Mercer at 220 lbs isn't out of the question. In fact I'd likely favor him.
Well if you are going to add weight,Mercer weighed 235 for Morrison..its still a non point trying to sell me a guy whos prime weight was about 210 in contrast to one who was 235 is still a huge jump.
Mercer was 235 vs Lewis, nearly 240 with Holmes,225 was the original weight I had,you added weight to Norton so if he fought at even 210 mostly its still a big gap.
That depends on how many rounds and which Ray Mercer shows up. I think Mercer at his best ( Lewis, Morrison, Holyfield ) has the right type of durability and finishing aggression to score a come from behind KO in a 12 or 15 round fight. But on most nights I see Norton via UD.
Depends on which Mercer shows up, Ray was durable and had good power but could be out hustled and outworked, he had power in both hands but not sure if he tips the tipping point and could put the pressure on Ken that is needed here i lean with Ray though
20 pounds not a huge difference?:-( you do realize when you reach over the 215 mark its practically a different weight class than below 215 right?Because the punchers feel much different, below 215 is more cruiserweight power.Add in Norton wasn't a power puncher and Mercer was.
Well if you want to nit pick go ahead..Morrison isn't in the topic ,the weight difference is however which again "225" was my original weight I had Mercer at.And I can clearly show Mercer fought comfortably at nearly 240 if you like?atsch
