Lousy idea. No point in ADDING divisions. The whole point is to not further dilute the talent as we saw happen with the gradual shift from 8 to 17.
Well, if Brian Minto raised the idea then ... No. The heavyweight champion is supposed to be able to beat up any man in the world. Brian Minto couldn't beat up all the "Brians" in the world.
I second this. There are too many divisions in boxing and they should just get rid of all the "super" divisions like 168, 154, 140 etc. 180 lbs is a pretty average weight for any adult male today and going with today's standards of male weight I'd call new 180 lbs division middleweight, 210 light heavy and anything below 180 midget something .
I think so. They should also get rid of one or two of the lower weight classes. Theres 5 divisions between 105 lbs and 118lbs. Its silly
The obvious answer is just look at the top 10 rankings and do the math, how many of them are below 220?How many are over 220?...if they have to make another class"They Do" it should go 225 and above....ive been saying eliminate the cruiserweight division for almost a decade...make a a new one under 190...make 185/200 lhw 201/224 HW and 225 plus super HW! If everone is complaining about to many classes its the ridiculous ones in the lighter classes that are confusing, theres nothing confusing about Heavyweight in the title.Eliminate a handful of the unessecary ones there. this 175 LHW class or over 200 is a HW class isn't cutting it anymore.Total waste of space who really fights even around 210 at HW today?:-(
It was already increased from 190 to 200, and it's a much better division for it. Heavyweight will always be the goal of big guys and bring more money, and top cruiserweights will move up regardless. If cruiser was 220 it would make heavyweight worse but wouldn't make cruiser much better. It's fine as it is. How about just making a 250 lb limit for heavyweight, to ban fat slobs?
Who are you banning?how many fighters are over 250?And if someone is 6'8/6'9 how would they not be over 250 in the most likely scenario?
I agree there are to many classes but I do think they need to have a seperate heavy and super heavy division. We seem to have too many divisions in the lower classes given people seem to be able to fight in different classes and have catch weights suggests we don;t need all of those divisions... Suggest they get rid of some "super" divisions lower down and add them higher..
