Who is the best British boxer to never win a world title?

Cooper's popularity led him to be massively overrated. He only beat erskine 3/5. Who was his best win? Mildenberger or lazy folley who quickly rematched and won quickly?

Tommy farr was a far better heavyweight, and he wasn't close to the best british boxer not to win a title.

If driscoll's title didn't count then he's the clear winner. He's the only contender to rate on historical "best of" weights.

If driscoll's title did count then my somewhat sentimental favorite would be graham, despite him having three tries and failing.

 

Michael Watson or Herol Graham.

If I had to pick I'd edge towards Watson.

Unless you are THE champ, what is the difference? All they are opportunists to make more money, be it WBA, IBF or WBU...

The fighter makes the title, the letters of the organization mean nothing, but extra money for the fighter. The four you listed are all ******* off spring of the NBA; which does not exist anymore either...

 

Maybe not the best to not win a title but there or about is Colin Jones.

 

I think Stevenson is champ; Kovalev is most peoples number one contender.

As for the Ring Championship, that too is an alphabet title. Indeed The Ring has been proven corrupt in the past, some of the other alphabet organizations are merely allegedly corrupt...

Also The Ring is owned by an organization with their own agenda.

If we are only talking 'generally recognized' world champions, this thread is going to have very different conclusions, the same if we are not recognizing defunct alphabet titles. But if we are recognizing alphabet titles then Audley is a former champion, which shows the absurdity of such titles!

 

I agree Graham did outbox Paz, but you also dont note that Paz was older also and Jones beat Paz in something like 5 rounds when Paz was younger.
Lets not forget Paz was a LW

 

On sheer natural talent, it HAS to be Kirkland Laing. Anyone who beats Roberto Duran yet doesn't win a world title simply has to be considered the best to never hold a strap. Although that said, Colin Jones beat him twice before the Duran fight, but then.. you never knew what you were going to get with Laing... and I certainly couldn't see Jones turning out a performance to beat Duran.

Michael Watson & Herol Graham would be top picks too.

 

What was classy about that comeback was not so much the Paz win, but the victory over Johnson the fight before.

Graham had looked very ordinary in his latest comeback and was thus given a 'final payday' against the unbeaten and highly thought of Olympic Medalist Chris Johnson.
