Will headgear removal for the amateur scene help American boxers?

    If anything the opposite IMO. The slicker U.S styles don't really depend on inflicting huge amounts of concussive punishment or big KOs, rather on accuracy and avoiding return fire. The improved peripheral vision may help to some degree, but then this goes for the opponent too, of course.

    Out of curiosity, do you believe US ams will benefit? If so, how would it benefit them stylistically?

    The US didn't get a single of the 40 available medals at the 2013 amateur would championships, the first without headgear. The second is next month, and if boxing without headgear's going to help US boxers they'll have to do well there.. The problems with US amateur boxing aren't related to headgear.

    They don't wear 20 oz gloves in the amateurs. But yeah he was stopped.

    More than headgear bigger gloves protect chin, some idiots here think when you put competition head gear you are untouchable :patsch

    I was under the impression it could be beneficial to the US sluggers. It's harder to slug with headgear.

    Why is the US so bad? Seriously?

    I really want to know why they've declined so much, or what the internationals do better than the US.

    How in the H is removal of headgear going to help American boxers in the amateurs?

    Why Americans over other countries? What is that even implying? I don't get it.

    America has been quite weak in the amateurs of late.

    Sorry but I don't buy this. You can't really suggest that an entire nation of people somehow biologically have a worse chin.

    Some of the best chins in boxing history are from American boxers; Holyfield, Tyson, Foreman, etc.

    It's what the internationals do better... Technique, tactics, basics and hard work. American boxers/trainers are of the old school mentality that you either have it or you don't. That causes their fighters to be lazy, and to be poorly developed.
