For all the keen fans of the amateur game on here - probably the best amateur fight ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz4AHrttlx8
Yeah I thought Ryan edged it to but the opponent LOOKED more aggressive. Donovan outboxed a wild Yank but I didn't see Coughlan, aren't they just great?
I certainly felt so,Didnt start great so lost the first IMO,had a brilliant second, dominated the opponent thought he was going to count the guy,the russian started the third well but died in the last minute and coughlan took over completly, I had it 29-28 coughlan, how some judge didnt give him a round was scandalous, but the irish coach told coughlan before he went out for the decision, just remember where you are and who you are fighting so looks like they were expecting it as well, Hopefully that may benefit Donovan as these things tend to at times,
You could argue that alright, the russian landed some very clean shots at the start of the third but i felt coughlan did enough down the stretch to pull those back, but the second round was a clear round for the cork lad i felt, yet it was judge against him,
Agree with both of you a bit but i felt overall Coughlan dominated the action, cutting off the ring and getting his shots off, forcing the Russian to break ground. In a close fight-which it was-ring generalship should decide.
Donovan lost aswell,S****py fight but i agreed with the decision, had it one each after 2 and felt the turk just did a bit more in the last,Irish corner were sure we had a gold though,
It was hard to watch Valdez hammer recent Frampton foe Chris Avalos. Avalos loks so bad it does take a bit of the shine off Carls win. Avalos looks beyond shot to me and needs to retire today. Frampton couldnt miss him and neither could Valdez. Probably the ease with which he hammered Avalos contributed to Carl being a bit complacent about the Gonzalez fight, and led to the problems he had early on in that fight.
