Groves has gone backwards no doubt whether its a confidence im not sure but also having 10 months out of the ring was probably the wrong decision. He fought well but I remember watching groves in the past thinking what a hard hitting spiteful ******* he was but he seems to have lost some power and I think he switches off during clinches and gets punished on the inside. Paddy im afraid was been with him long enough now to have a positive effect but he obviously falls short because groves never seems to have a plan B infact there didn't even seem to be a Plan A last night. Maybe groves needs to move up in weight because he doesn't seem to have the power anymore which might be down to making weight. Jack is however better than I excepted not elite but does certain things well, he puts his shots together well but has limitations and maybe groves is unfortunately even after 22 fights has had his best days already. I cant see him beating degale and I cant see him having the power to stop abraham, jack will not give him a rematch so where does he go now? However much groves believes he won the fight he never once had jack in trouble and on home soil he needed to be way more dominant which he wasn't. Had he stayed on his feet in the first round I think he would of sneaked it but he took 3 rounds to recover and without a stoppage was never going to get the win. Groves nastiness has gone his power has gone , he no longer seems to have a game plan and his stamina seems to be getting worse. Paddy do the right thing and retire yourself!!
yes but what more think something else also happened...they pretty much wont talk to each other :fire
He has had three world title shots and come up short. I chose get back with Booth, but there is obviously issues with that. The posters that have said a DeGale match and he would have to take a tiny purse percentage...100% correct.
Christ, he only lost in a very close fight fighting away. Not like he got blown away. I agree that he should swap trainers now though, I think Groves over thinks things now. He used to be great at lateral movement also. Throws too many shots with full power, which I think is why he goes ragged in the last third of fights. Jack is clearly a lot better and stronger then people give him credit.
Abraham in Germany after a tune up fight I'd imagine. If he were to lose that however I'd say Sauerland would drop him sharpish.
No option for a European defence on poll that would be my pick. But is Sauerland could get him a shot at AA that is a route. Don't think in a million years Groves will go back to Booth as they split over money and with Groves getting big paydays against Froch and Jack do u really think he would give a fair chunk to Booth. Thought Sauerland nad Booth dont get on after the Price Booth failed relationship. Callum Smith Rocky Fielding winner will surely leapfrog Groves at a shot at Jack Eddie will work his magic. If it was the IBF think they would order Jack Groves 2 but dont think WBC will
I always thought Groves would win a rematch but I can't see it happening now, although Degale has stamina issues himself I think Groves is ruined. He just doesn't have the chin for elite fights.
Groves has one of the styles and physiques that can work against you in a tough fight. He marks up, puffs hard when out of gas, and when he takes a shot the very paleness of his gingery body throw the reaction into HD relief for all the judges and TV Cameras. You can see his head snap back in way that makes you feel, just viscerally, that he is taking punishment. This, in part, was why he was stopped early in Froch 1. Same story last night where someone like Jack is the opposite. A tight, unremarkable and efficient style. Even when getting hit he moves in straight compact lines. Groves on the other hand flails and is suddenly all curves and limbs. It does make a difference in fights where you get drawn into championship rounds.
I have to say (and I don't want to say it) that I agree with this. He's the type of fighter that can dish out 50 straight-rights and he only needs to take one back and the whole venture somehow seems perilous and like he must quickly grapple or run away. I'm not sure it's strictly true, but it just feels that way watching Groves. Partly for the reasons I just said above.
