Undeniably an ATG, but his hyper carefully planned career makes him look more like a corporate portfolio manager than an athlete.

At 130, I could see it; at 140, you are off your rocker. Wins over Corley, Bruseles, and Gatti get you nowhere near that.

Victories over Mitchell, Judah, Baldomir, Hatton, Marquez, Mosley, Maidana, Pacquiao, and Berto is top-3 stuff? I can't say that's convincing. Maybe top-15-20.

 

He's up there with Moses or the prophet Muhammad. In modern times Martin Luther King Jr. is the closest comparison. But Mayweather's probably done more for his people, and has to good sense to retire before he's shot.

Not sure there have been 5 140-lbers who I would favor to beat him though. He could have spent the last 10 years dominating that division pretty easily (after all, he's still really a junior welterweight).

 

He's certainly up there, talent- and skill-wise. And going from junior-lightweight champ to junior-middleweight champ in the span of 6 years is nothing to sneeze at.

allow me to elaborate the man's undefeated at 49-0 and ruled several divisions, and is history's ONLY 100 million dollar fighter. That's more than heavyweights make

at 130, maybe an Arguello can stop him, hurt him. Camacho certainly too fast for him

140 second only to Pryor and would've schooled Cervantes, outpointed Pernel (sorry Whitaker fans, Floyd's just a higher caliber fighter)

at 147 Robinson in a fight more difficult than expected

Agreed. He had belts in some five weight divisions. 26 world title fight wins with 23 of them being lineal. 24 victories over past or present world champions. An olympic medal and the claim to never having been beaten. I don't see a huge problem there.

 

I'd say all the divisions and belts have been a big problem for boxing for quite some time.

 

There are advantages and disadvantages to both the old and new system. But weather one agrees or disagrees Floyd Mayweathers career, resume and legacy are enough for me to make the top 10.

Before the late 70s, you could count on one hand the number of fighters who won titles in three divisions. Now you couldn't count them all if you hand 100 hands. Rather dilutes the achievement somewhat.
