Groves needs to retire

Yeah, he has to give something a try. He almost looks overtrained every fight nowadays. Just missing a spark. He can be dropped in the first and still firing away in the twelfth and trying to boss it so there's nothing much wrong with him. He doesn't seem to throw percussive shots anymore though, just high volume middling power. He has a good following, I really hope he can turn it around.

 

he is far from needing to retire. It looked more like a preparation issue and going in with a bad game plan. he was down but still maintained his determination to keep fighting, he didn't look shot, just frustrated. as said he needs to change something drastic, this wasn't a ko disaster but it could end up being if he doesn't do something fast, like change trainers. I hope he sorts it, he would be stupid too carry on like this.

I am not sure he will retire but it would be a shame to see him become a gatekeeper like Rebrasse and them sort of fighters.

I think the Degale fight might still happen as Degale will want to set the record straight; and who knows maybe a big domestic fight will bring out the best in him?

If not, I cannot see him getting another world title shot in a hurry so it will be another domestic dust up with the Smiths or Fielding.

 

I genuinely think that if froch had shown up with the mentality he did in their 2nd fight and got that result the first time round then no one would have expected so much of groves. Everyone has expected him to do great things based off that 1st performance and now everyone seems to think he is finished. reality is that this is just how good he was always going to be, but people are now letting their over expectation of groves cloud their judgement of his performances. He is not shot or 'cobra'd', he is a good SMW with good power who would have had the exact same results against the fighters he's fought since froch even if you erase the 2 froch fights from ever happening.

 

I dont think he needs to retire he needs to take a honest look at himself. Hes not as good as he thinks he is and until he adresses that point he wont move fwd.

 

He's still very young.

If every boxer quit so easily half of the boxers in the hall of fame wouldn't have made a name for themselves, George Foreman, Cotto, Muhamad Ali, Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko, Manny Pacquiao etc. have all had their greatest moments after many fans felt they were past it and not good enough anymore. Remember when everybody was saying Wladimir should retire after he lost twice in a short space of time.

Now George Groves hasn't looked his best in his last 4 fights there are three main factors in my opinion in no particular order 1) the damage Froch did 2) Losing Adam Booth 3) Making weight.

He needs to build his confidence back, focus, get into a good camp and manage his weight properly. If he does all three of these things he has every chance of getting back to his best form and improving on that but if he doesn't get into a good camp, if he keeps doubting himself, if he doesn't make weight properly I can't see anything changing.

This is a very important time in his career he needs to do everything right if he gets the match making or anything wrong it could all be over.

 

More so than a World Title Shot?

Groves is in a right limbo, shouldnt be world level, but he is a world level 'name', he cant go back to european level, where he belongs T. B. H

 

Another tennis example is Djokovic who switched to gluten free and became the best in the world - have at times gone gluten free and have found it helped me a bit, so can imagine what it would do for groves

 

he's still young enough to come again. Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up in an eliminator for the ibf belt to fight degale. For both the cash and setting the record straight degale will want to fight groves so this fight is likely to happen.

Groves has deleted all social media, some rumours he's gonna announce retirement

 

Whatever he decides to do from this point on he needs imo to take a long break from boxing and then decide his next move.

 

He got a close split decision away from home for a world title and he needs to retire? Good grief, some of you guys have high expectations.
