It's never happened since the introduction of the p4p rankings. Calzaghe never reached it, Hatton never did, Hamed never did, Lewis never did, Froch never did. Who will be the 1st British fighter to reach #1 p4p status?
pacroid was never number one, esp after beating a walking corpse as Hans has mentioned, Zaggers was P4P King while active, despite Ring comic's propaganda
Lewis was p4p #1 just because some biased american version of a p4p list doesn't say he was doesn't mean he wasn't.
Was Lewis never rated number one? It's a shame we never saw him take RJJ's head off. That'd be hilarious to see. A lot of his fans believed he could beat LL but fortunately for Roy he had the good sense to know he couldn't and stayed the F away from him. I remember some clowns rating Hamed that highly but that's so far removed from reality that I couldn't take that seriously even as a child.
If any British fighter did it was Turpin. But I doubt even the concept of P4P even existed back then. Calzaghe and Hamed probably got the closest since. According to The Ring magazine Calzaghe got to 3rd in 2008 behind Pac and Marquez and Hamed got to 6th in 2000.
I was 12 when he fought Barrera and remember the hype around him reaching ridiculous proportions. My cousin who was 19 at the time had put a couple of hundred quid on barrera and was being mocked mercilessly by all of his mates for being a fool, stating Hamed hit like a heavyweight. It was ludicrous. I don't think people realise just how much much of the public bought into Naz at that point.
No Chance ! Boxing has become a PPV contest rather than fighters boxing skills. The US market pays twice the amount for PPV in comparison to the rest of the world . Control the money you control the PFP ratings.
P4P by who? Are you taking it that the Ring mag is the be all and end all opinion? Its someones opinion and thats all it is
An American comic no more. I had a wee look at their P4P list in the shop the other day and it was embarrassing
