I've always maintained to not give credibility or importance to the "P4P" thing due to it's countless flaws, but I think that the current situation is probably unique. Wladimir Klitschko is now officially rated as the best P4P fighter in the world by Boxrec, and I think that's extremely uncommon for a heavyweight boxer. Does anyone have information if another heavyweight was also rated #1 P4P? I'm pretty sure that Mike Tyson managed to reach that at some point. Anyone else?
This consumes at your soul lol... Hahahha. :good Only a matter of time before Wlad's P4P there too... Once he knocks out Fury he will. :thumbsup
Wlad is one of my favorite fighters, but wasn't the P4P rankings created to draw attention away from the HW division and give attention to the lower divisions. I mean there is no weight limit for HWs, so why do they deserve to make the P4P list?
well, it (used to be) skillevel regardless of weight/size. If all were the same height/weight who'd win. In that case it's hard to call Wladschko the #1 P4P Nowadays it's more about resume, accomplishments, dominance and such. Then suddenly Wladdy pops up again.
P4P was a gimmick to draw attention away from the heavyweights which dominated the sport for years and spread the wealth to the lighter weight classes. So people could say yeah no way Ray Robinson could beat Joe Louis but p4p he's the better fight. In turn more ppl would show up to see these guys fighter. To have a heavyweight as the top p4p fighter is quite an accomplisment as by design it's usually more difficult for a fighter from that division to reach such a lofty status. I believe only Tyson had reached it in the last 25 plus years until Wlad. Although I think Tyson was in ring which Wlad has not yet reached. He is certaintly top 3 for them I would think?
Everyone with a respectable opinion probably recognizes Roman Gonzalez as #1 P4P. Although I'm a big Wladimir fan and I reckon he'd have to be #2 now, so, I guess I shouldn't complain too much with it...
4 of Roman's last 9 fights were against opponents ranked below top 50. You can't compare his level of opposition to Wlad who constantly fights top 10 fighters. Wlad deserves the #1 spot more than anyone else.
